울진군에 따르면 자원봉사자들은 (사)울진군종합자원봉사센터(이사장 박경조)가 주축이 되어 지난 7일 자원봉사자 발대식 및 교육을 시작으로 개·폐회식 행사지원, 사전경기·본경기 운영지원, 경기장 안내, 선수단 환영, 질서유지, 선수시상 지원 등 여러 분야에서 활동하며 도내 23개 시·군, 1만 2천여 명의 선수단과 방문객들을 친절하게 맞이하였다.
4월의 때 아닌 추위와 황사 등의 열악한 기후에도 불구하고 봉사자들은 열정을 잃지 않았다. 체육대회 기간 중 6일을 연달아 참여한 자원봉사자가 있는가 하면, 직접 만든 차를 가져와 선수들에게 권하며 긴장을 풀어주는 봉사자도 있었다.
