이종찬 우당교육문화재단 이사장(전 국정원장)이 5월 25일 실시되는 제23대 광복회장 선거에 후보자로 출마 의사를 밝혔다.
이종찬 우당교육문화재단 이사장은 지난 4월 25일 오후 2시, 서울 서대문구 현저동에 있는 한국임시정부기념관 의정원홀에서 출마 행사를 가졌다. 이날 행사에는 독립운동 단체 임원과 유족, 친지 등 250여 명이 참석했다.
이날 사회는 김동건 방송인이 맡았다. 김능진 전 독립기념관장, 명노승 매헌윤봉길의사기념사업회 회장 등이 이종찬 이사장을 광복회장 후보로 추천했다.
김능진 전 독립기념관 관장은 “김원웅 전 광복회장이 중도 사퇴, 광복회는 내홍을 겪으며 공황상태에 있다”고 지적하고 “광복회의 권위와 위상을 복원하기 위하여는 경륜이 있는 지도자를 모셔야 한다는 판단에서, 이종찬 이사장을 광복회장 후보로 추천했다”고 강조했다.
