'93대전엑스포30주년...
함께했던 지난 세월에 대하여 당시 조직위원장이셨던 오명 전부총리와 대화를 하면서 “이제 30년이 지났으니 우리의 영광스럽던 기억들을 덮어야 할 때가 되었고 부산엑스포가 유치되어 다시 새로운 대한민국 엑스포 영광을 이어 나갔으면 한다.”라며 세월의 마침표를 건네며 조용히 말씀하셨다.
그 시대에 열정과 뛰어난 리더십으로 엑스포를 성공적으로 이끌어 영광스러운 대한민국의 k-expo의 초석을 놓았으며 대한민국 선진국으로 이끌어낸 대전 명예시민 1호인 오명 전 부총리와 함께 대전세계박람회 조직위원회에서 일하였던 그 모든 순간이 영광이었다.
그래서 30년이 다가와도 그 떨리는 감동이 여전히 가슴에 울린다.
공교롭게도 2030 부산엑스포 유치를 위하여 막바지 노력을 기울이고 있는 금년이 ‘93대전엑스포 30주년이 된다. 콜럼버스가 미 대륙을 발견한 400주년을 기념하여 1893년에 시카고에서 개최되었던 엑스포에 우리나라가 최초로 참가하였는데, 그로부터 100년이 지난 1993년 대전엑스포를 개최하였다. 아울러 50주년을 맞이하는 대덕연구단지가 1972년에 착공되어 1992년 1차적으로 완성된 20주년을 기념하는 의미도 지녔었다고 한다.
오명위원장의 회고를 통하여 평가된 내용을 보면 엑스포공인기구인 BIE 본부가 있는 프랑스 르네 모노리 상원의장은 “평소 엑스포에 관심이 많아 일본 츠쿠바나 스페인 세비야 박람회 등 세계 각지에서 개최된 엑스포를 방문하였는데 이번에 방문한 대전엑스포는 기술이나 영상 면에서 가장 훌륭한 엑스포였다”라고 극찬하였고,
