[브레이크뉴스=양영석 기자] 경상남도 무형문화재 함안 낙화놀이 공개행사가 오는 27일 부처님 오신 날 함안 무진정에서 개최된다.
함안 낙화놀이는 연못위에 흩날리는 불꽃들의 향연으로 조선판 불꽃놀이, k-불꽃놀이로 유명세를 타고 있다.
이번 행사는 오후 4시 경상남도 무형문화재 함안화천농악, 함안농요 공연 및 함안읍성농악대 공연으로 사전행사에 이어 오후 7시부터 낙화놀이 유래 설명과 함께 낙화점화식이 진행 된다.
함안 낙화놀이의 역사는 조선시대로 거슬러 올라간다.
조선 선조 재위 당시 함안군수로 부임한 정구 선생 때 액운을 없애고 군민의 안녕과 한해 풍년을 기원하기 위해서 시작됐다.
조선 고종 때 함안군수를 지낸 오횡목이 쓴 함안 총쇄록에는 “함안읍성 전체에 낙화놀이가 열렸으며 이를 보기 위해 많은 사람들이 성루에 올랐다”고 기록돼 있다.

이후 일제강점기 때 민족 말살 정책으로 중단됐으나 1960년 함안 괴항마을 농민들의 복원으로 잠깐 부활됐으며, 2000년대 함안면과 마을주민들이 ‘함안 낙화놀이보존회’를 설립하게 되면서 지금까지 이어지고 있다.
하얀 저고리와 바지를 입고 뗏목을 타고 연못위에 낙화봉을 매다는 모습부터 횃불을 이용하여 낙화봉 하나하나에 점화하는 모습 또한 큰 볼거리다.
이후 약 2시간에서 2시간 반 정도 연못 위를 수놓는 불꽃들의 향연은 많은 관람객들에게 아름다움을 선사한다.
함안낙화놀이는 예능프로그램을 시작으로, ‘붉은단심’ 등 다수 드라마 촬영지로 알려지면서 더욱 많은 인기를 끌고 있다.
군 관계자는 “아름다운 장면을 많은 분들이 기대하고 있는 반면, 협소한 장소에 많은 인파가 예상되어 안전사고가 발생하지 않도록 최선을 다하고 있다”며 “아름다운 함안 낙화놀이를 안전한 가운데서 다함께 즐길 수 있기를 바란다”고 말했다.
