1954년 창교한 통일교(세계기독교통일신령협회), 이 교단의 문선명 교주(1920-2012)는 1954년 5월부터 2012년 9월까지 58년 간 종교 활동을 했다. 통일교(1997년 세계평화통일가정연합으로 개칭)는 문선명 교주 재세(당대)에 세계적인 선교기반을 닦은 한국산 종교이기도 하다. 문선명 교주가 지난 2012년 9월3일 타계한 이후, 교단 운영권을 이 교단의 신도들이 승계한 것이 아니라, 문선명 교주의 혈족인 부인 한학자씨(현재 세계평화통일가정연합선교회 이사장)-아들 문현진-문형진씨가 승계 또는 분종(分宗)함으로써, 문선명 교주 사후의 교단이 분열되는 양상을 보이고 있다.

한학자씨의 이러한 주장들은 통일교의 기존 교리에서, 기존 문선명 교주의 위상(位相)을 지워내고, 부인 한학자씨를 독생녀(獨生女)로 옹립하기 위해 교리를 세탁하는 중임을 알 수 있게 한다. 이 글에서도 “독생녀교의 강요”라고 꼬집었다. 또한 “7월31일부터 한국 2세 지도자들에게 독생녀론을 강의한다는 소문을 들었다. 아마 2세들에게까지 가르치겠다고 하는 것은 볼 때 이 심각성을 간과해서는 안 될 것”이라고 우려하고 있다.

통일교(세계기독교통일신령협회)의 2-4-6대 협회장을 지낸 김영휘 전 협회장(1928년생. 서울대 공대 졸업)은 지난 2022년 7월4일 발간된 “섭리의 진실(기획출판 문영)”이란 저서 235쪽에서 “만일 독생녀를 보내신다면 보낸다는 말씀이 성경 가운데 나와 있어야 합니다. 그리고 예수님을 보내시기 위한 구약시대의 섭리와 같이 성경 가운데 원죄 없는 독생녀(獨生女)를 보내기 위한 섭리가 반드시 있어야 합니다. 그런데 성경 가운데는 그러한 섭리 이야기가 하나도 없습니다. 그러니까 독생녀를 보내는 일은 없는 것입니다. 그것이 없는데도 그런 주장을 하면 근거가 없는 주장이 돼 버립니다”고, 적시했다. 그의 지적은 “한학자=독생녀(獨生女)”라는 한학자씨 측의 주장-논리를 정면 반대하는 내용이다. 교단 내, 심각한 교리혼란이 있음이 노증(路拯)됐다.
