[브레이크뉴스=양영석 기자] 고성군은 25일부터 31일까지 고성군국민체육센터에서 제51회 문화체육관광부장관기 전국학생레슬링선수권대회 및 제47회 전국대학레슬링선수권대회를 개최한다.
대한레슬링협회가 주최하고 경남레슬링협회가 주관하는 이번 대회는 25일 지도자 및 심판 강습회를 시작으로 초등부, 중등부, 고등부, 대학부 선수들이 출전해 다양한 체급에서 경쟁을 펼칠 예정이다.
레슬링이 올림픽 최초의 금메달 획득과 역사와 전통을 간직하고 있으나 경남은 레슬링 불모지로 불릴 정도로 전국 단위 레슬링 대회가 개최된 이력이 없다.
이에 군은 적극적인 스포츠 마케팅과 경남레슬링협회 및 관계자들과 협력해 최초로 제51회 전국학생레슬선수권대회 및 제47회 전국대학레슬링선수권대회를 개최하게 됐다.
이상근 군수는 “고성군에서 처음으로 전국레슬링대회를 개최하게 돼 대단히 기쁘게 생각하며 올림픽 효자 종목 중 하나인 레슬링을 사랑하는 전국의 레슬링 가족이 고성을 방문하는 것을 환영한다”며 “이번 대회 개최를 위해 애써주신 조해상 대한레슬링협회 회장님, 정지원 경남레슬링협회 회장님을 비롯한 대회 관계자분들께 감사 인사를 드리며 성공적인 대회를 위해 군에서도 적극적으로 지원하겠다”고 말했다.
