이번 행사에는 참전 영웅인 장사상륙작전유격동지회 회원 12명과 유가족들을 비롯해 김광열 군수, 손덕수 군의회 의장, 황영호 경상북도 복지건강국장, 이병록 제50사단 해룡여단장, 김지현 경북남부보훈지청장, 주민과 군장병 등 500여 명이 참석해 참전 영웅들의 얼을 기렸다.
이번 행사에선 제50사단과 장사대대가 군사 장비를 전시하는 자리를 마련하고, 영덕군이 문산호를 임시로 개방해 무료로 관람할 기회를 제공하는 등 다양한 체험행사가 진행돼 호평받았다.
또한, 영덕어린이집, 강구어린이집 어린이들이 생존 영웅들인 장사상륙작전유격동지회 회원들에게 꽃다발을 전달하는 이벤트를 열어 참석자들의 눈시울을 붉히게 했다.
장사상륙참전유격동지회 류병추 회장은 “참전용사들에 대한 극진한 예우에 큰 감동을 선물 받았다”며, “매년 장사상륙작전 전승기념식을 개최해 주신 데 대해 영덕군에 감사드린다”고 소감을 밝혔다.
김광열 영덕군수는 “장사상륙작전유격동지회 영웅들의 뜨거운 애국혼은 우리 군의 자랑이자 후세에 깊이 계승되어야 할 소중한 정신적 자산”이라며 이날의 의미를 전했다.
한편, 장사상륙작전은 6ㆍ25전쟁의 교착상태를 타개하기 위해 인천상륙작전을 성공시키기 위한 양동작전으로, 참전병 772명 중 600여 명이 어린 학도병들로 구성돼 불과 보름 동안의 훈련만을 받고 작전에 투입됐으며, 참전용사들은 태풍(케지아)이 불고 수송함(문산호)이 좌초되는 상황 속에서도 상륙을 감행했었다.
이 작전으로 92명의 부상자와 미처 승선하지 못한 유격대원 39명이 최후의 1인까지 싸우다 전사하는 등 총 139명의 전사자가 발생하는 희생을 감수해야 했지만, 인천상륙작전 성공의 토대를 마련해 한국 전쟁사에 영원히 남을 전투로 기억되고 있다.

Meanwhile, the Jangsa Landing Operation was a diversionary operation aimed at the success of the Incheon Landing Operation to break the stalemate of the Korean War. About 600 of the 772 participating soldiers were made up of young student soldiers and underwent only 15 days of training.
