한국스카우트연맹은 '제17회 Youth Hero상' 수상자 4명을 선정했다고 20일 밝혔다.
'Youth Hero상' 위원회는 앞서 1, 2차 회의 및 서면평가를 통해 학술부문, 체육부문, 문화예술부문, 스카우트부문에서 4명의 수상자를 최종선발했다. 사회봉사진로개척부문도 있었으나 적합자가 없어 최종 수상자는 선발하지 않았다.
이에 따라 학술부문에서 진유림(18, 민족사관고등학교 2학년)씨를 선정했다. 위원회는 선정 이유에 대해 "치매와 같은 뇌변성 질환 치료와 메커니즘을 밝히고, 알츠하이머병의 원인을 밝혀내고 진단하며 치료하는 방법에 관심이 많아 한국뇌캠프에 참가하여 신경해부학, 신경생리학, 뇌공학, 뇌질환 분야를 공부하여 1등을 수상했으며 세계 약 1800여명의 청소년들이 참한 ISEF에서 알츠하이머 치매 환자의 공간 주의 편향에 대한 연구를 발표하여 아시아인으로서 처음으로 3개의 상을 수상하는 등 과학 부문에서 탁월한 실적을 얻었을 뿐만 아니라 교내 또래 학습도우미와 노숙자를 위한 새벽 밥 봉사활동 등 어려운 봉사활동을 327시간 이상한 따뜻한 마음을 가지고 탁월한 지적 역량, 글로벌 역량, 리더십을 겸비했다"고 설명했다.
체육부문에선 신수민(17, 서울체육고등학교 1학년)씨를 선정했다. 신씨에 대해선 "중학교 때부터 육상부로 활동하며 전국소년체전 1,500m에서 4위, 3,000m에서 2위를 차지하는 등 뛰어난 재능을 가지고 있었으나 육상부의 해제로 인해 전학과 동시에 여러 체육 분야에서 두각을 나타내 근대5종 수로 입문하여 2022년 9월 이탈리아 리냐노에서 열린 근대5종 U17,19 세계청소년선수권대회에서 세계 근대5종 역사상 처음으로 동시 석권하여 세계에 대한민국의 근대5종 우수성을 알리는데 지대한 공헌을 하였으며 열심히 훈련하고 있다"고 평가했다.
문화예술부문에선 오지은(17, 인덕과학기술고등학교 1학년)씨를 선발했다. 오씨는 대해선 "책임감과 리더십이 강한 학생으로 고등학교 1학년부터 3학년 현재까지 방과 후 교내 제품디자인 전공심화 동아리 활동을 꾸준하고 성실하게 하면서 결과적으로도 뛰어난 성과를 보였다. 다양한 디자인 트렌드와 기술을 탐구하며 이를 바탕으로 창의적인 아이디어를 기록하고 발표하기를 좋아하고 하나의 주제를 정하면 다양한 방면으로 연구하고 실험하는 등 디자인 학업에 대한 강한 열정뿐만 아니라 다양한 방면에서 문제해결능력이 뛰어난 학생으로 우수한 학업능력뿐 아니라 교내 모든 학생을 위해 배식 급식봉사, 교내 홍보활동 등 봉사정신과 희생정신이 투철하다"고 전했다.
스카우트부문에선 변홍준(23, 한국스카우트강원연맹)씨가 선정됐다. 위원회는 "적극적인 스카우트 활동을 통하여 자기 자신뿐만 아니라 주변 선배, 친구, 후배 가릴 것 없이 함께 발전할 수 있는 사람이 되고자 노력해왔으며 특히 지역대, 지방연맹, 중앙본부 가릴 것 없이 늘 본인의 최선을 다하여 성실히 맡은 본분을 다하여 타의 모범이 됐다. 군 복무 시절에도 본인의 휴가를 사용하여 꾸준히 행사 참여하여 후배 로버들의 버팀목 역할을 해주었으며 현재는 맡은바 자신의 역할을 충실히 수행하고 있을 뿐만 아니라 제 25회 세계스카우트 잼버리운영팀의 직분을 맡아 누구보다 열정적으로 세계잼버리에 참여하였다. 스카우트 외에도 모든 일에 진취적으로 임하며 언제나 ‘1일 1선 정신으로’더 나은 세계를 위해 힘쓰는 모습을 보였다"고 선발 이유를 말했다.
한편 이들에 대한 시상식은 오는 11월 9일 오후 2시 서울 영등포구에 위치한 한국스카우트연맹회관 1층 스카우트홀에서 진행된다.
