브레이크뉴스 문홍철 기자= 새마을금고중앙회는 개발도상국을 대상으로 새마을금고 금융포용시스템을 전파하는 글로벌 사회공헌을 실현하고 있다고 21일 밝혔다.
새마을금고에 따르면 상부상조·상생협력을 바탕으로 한 새마을금고 모델은 한국의 대표적인 ODA모델로 자리잡았고, 2016년 미얀마를 시작으로 현재까지 56개의 해외 새마을금고 설립 및 1만5000여명의 회원 참여를 이끌어내는 성장을 이뤄냈다.
새마을금고가 뿌리내린 지역은 정치적·경제적 불안정 상황에도 불구하고, 공동체적 신뢰와 협동을 기반으로 회원수와 저축액을 늘려가는 견고함도 보여줬다.
아울러 새마을금고중앙회는 지난 7월과 9월 2차례에 걸쳐 새마을금고의 금융포용모델을 전파하기 위해 개발도상 9개 국가의 공무원을 초청했다. 8월에는 라오스 현지 새마을금고의 지속가능 금융시스템 구축을 위해 라오스 정부부처 공무원을 대상으로 초청연수를 진행했다.
특히, 새마을금고는 올해 창립 60주년을 맞아 ‘세계 새마을금고의 날’을 선포하고, 국제협동조합연맹(ICA), 유럽협동조합은행협회(EACB) 등 다양한 국제협동조합기구와 지속가능한 금융포용 사업을 적극 기획?추진 중이다.
새마을금고중앙회 관계자는 “빈곤퇴치, 불평등 완화, 지역 상생공동체 구축 등 UN지속가능발전목표(SDGs)달성을 위한 ESG경영의 일환으로 글로벌MG를 전 세계에 걸쳐 실천할 계획이다”고 전했다.
