브레이크뉴스 정명훈 기자= PLCC카드 발급 건수가 700만장이 넘었다며 무분별한 카드 확장이 소비자 피해로 이어져선 안된다는 우려가 나왔다.
PLCC카드(Private Label Credit Card)는 1개 카드사와 1개의 제휴사가 단독계약을 맺고 운영하는 형태로, 카드 혜택과 서비스를 특정 제휴사에만 집중해주는 방식이다.
25일 유의동 국민의힘 의원이 금융감독원으로부터 제출받은 자료에 따르면, 2015년 국내에 첫 선을 보인 PLCC카드는 계속 증가해 2023년 7월 기준 733만8677장이 발급됐다.
PLCC카드는 현대카드, 신한카드, 우리카드, BC카드 순으로 많이 발급했는데, 사실상 현대카드가 독주하는 분야다. 현대카드는 총 56종의 카드를 운영하며 전체 PLCC카드 발급 수의 78.41%를 차지하고 있다.
특히 전체 PLCC카드 가운데 발급 건수 기준 상위 10개 카드 중 9개를 현대카드에서 출시했다.
가장 많이 발급된 PLCC카드는 현대카드와 코스트코가 제휴한 코스트코 리워드 현대카드로 2019년 출시 이후 올해 7월 말까지 64만 장이 넘게 발급됐다.
한편 PLCC카드의 발급량이 늘어나면서 사용량이 적거나 휴면상태인 카드가 늘어나고 있다는 점에서 소비자들의 연회비 부담으로 이어질 수 있다는 지적도 나온다.
이에 대해 유의동 의원은 “소비자의 합리적 소비에 도움이 되어야 할 PLCC카드가 소비자 피해로 이어지면 안된다”고 말하며, “PLCC카드의 확장이 소비자 피해로 이어지지 않도록 금융당국의 책임감 있는 감시가 필요하다”고 강조했다.

PLCC cards were issued in the order of Hyundai Card, Shinhan Card, Woori Card, and BC Card, which are in fact in the monopoly atmosphere of Hyundai Card. Hyundai Card operates a total of 56 types of cards, accounting for 78.41 percent of the total number of PLCC cards issued.
