한국스카우트연맹은11월9일 오후 한국스카우트연맹 회관 대강당에서 수상자와 가족 그리고 내·외빈 50명이 참석한 가운데 제17회 유스히어로상(Youth Hero Prize, 자랑스런 청소년대상) 시상식을 개최했습니다. 필자는 이 상의 심사위원 10명 중에 참여, 공적을 심사했습니다. 시상식 당일에는 심사보고를 했습니다.

한국스카우트연맹이 주관해온 유스히어로상(자랑스런 청소년대상)은 재능과 성장가능성이 있는 청소년 영웅(英雄)을 발굴, 지원하기 위하여 2007년 대한민국에서 처음으로 청소년대상을 제정, 올해 제17회째 상을 주는 자리였습니다. ▲학술 ▲문화·예술 ▲사회봉사·진로 ▲체육 ▲스카우트 부문을 시상해왔습니다. 올해 유스 히어로상 수상자로 ▲학술부문의 진유림 양(민족사관고) ▲문화·예술 부문의 오지은 양(인덕과학기술고) ▲체육 부문의 신수민 양(서울체육고) ▲스카우트 부문에 변홍준 군(강원대)등 4명이 수상의 영예를 안았습니다. 수상자에겐 상금 500만원과 증서, 메달이 수여 됐습니다. 이 가운데는 미국 하버드대학에 진학을 준비하는 수재도 있었습니다.
강태선 총재는 시상식의 인사말에서 “여러분은 대한민국의 희망이고 동량이며 미래를 책임질 진정한 이 시대의 등불이라며 세계적인 리더로 성장하기를 응원하겠다”고 말했습니다.
역대 유스히어로상 수상자는 ▲2007년 제1회 수상자인 김연아 선수를 비롯해 ▲피아니스트 김선욱, 조성진 군 ▲올림픽 양궁 금메달리스트 구본찬 선수 ▲세계바둑랭킹 1위 신진서 군 ▲아시아게임에서 수상종목 첫 금메달 리스트인 조원우 선수 ▲배드민턴 여자단식 세계랭킹 1위인 양세영 선수 등 69명이 유스 히어로상을 수상했다고 합니다.
나이든 세대는 문자쓰기 활동을 연필 또는 볼펜으로 해왔던 세대입니다. 그러나 젊은 세대들은 키보드(글자판) 세대입니다. 미래는 연필-볼펜세대 보다 키보드 세대에게 기회가 열려 있습니다. 유스 히어로(젊은 영웅)세대들은 문자쓰기 활동이 왕성한 키보드를 두들기며 미래로 나아갈 수 있습니다. 더 많은 기회가 있다고 보는 것입니다. 그들이 희망입니다. 그들에게 국가의 활기찬 미래가 달려 있습니다

오늘 시상식에 참석해 주신 수상자와 내빈 여러분, 반갑습니다. 유스히어로상 심사위원회 위원 문일석입니다. 오늘 여러분과 함께 제17회 유스히어로상 시상식에 함께하게 된 것을 매우 기쁘고 뜻 깊게 생각합니다.
행사를 주최하신 한국스카우트연맹 강태선 총재님과 수상자 선정을 위해 어려운 심사를 맡아주신 위원회 위원님, 그리고 관계자분들께 감사의 말씀을 전합니다. 자신의 목표와 꿈을 이루기 위해 그리고 자신보다 어려운 이웃들을 위해 남다른 공적을 쌓아 오늘 영예로운 유스히어로상을 받는 수상자 여러분들을 진심으로 축하하며, 수상을 하지 못한 자랑스런 청소년에게도 격려의 박수를 아끼지 않겠습니다. 한국스카우트연맹은 청소년들이 자신들의 재능과 역량을 계발하고 미래의 핵심인재로 성장할 수 있도록 다양한 청소년 활동을 추진하고 있는데, 특히 뛰어난 재능과 성장가능성이 있는 미래의 꿈나무인 우리 청소년들에게 이 상을 수여 할 수 있어 큰 보람을 느낍니다.
본 위원회는 한국스카우트연맹으로부터 재외공관 및 청소년관련기관, 초․중․고․대학교 등으로부터 접수된 후보자 추천서를 넘겨받아 면밀한 심사와 검증을 거쳐 총 4개 부문의 수상자를 선정하였습니다. 본 상의 제정 취지와 한국스카우트연맹의 사회공헌 노력에 부합하는 가장 적격한 수상자를 선발하기 위하여 위원회는 최선을 다했습니다. 매년 수상자들을 선정하는 데 최우선적으로 검토한 것은 성장 가능성이었습니다. 수상자들이 걸어온 공적 뿐 아니라 앞으로 자신을 얼마나 성장시킬수 있는가를 중요한 평가지표로 삼았고, 많은 이들에게 공감과 감동을 줄 수 있는지도 고려하였습니다.
청소년이 열정과 노력으로 자신만의 공적을 이루어낸 전문성, 지속적인 성장을 통해 선한 영향력을 끼칠수 있는 미래성장가능성, 타인의 모범이 되어 사회발전에 기여한 점 등 심사위원들의 객관적인 심사과정을 거쳐 공정하고 엄정하게 유스히어로상 수상자를 선정하였습니다.

올해 수상자로는 글로벌 디자이너로 성장 할 오진은 양(문화예술), 한국 과학 및 의료분야에서 훌륭한 인재로 성잘 할 진유림 양(학술), 한국 근대5종의 떠오르는 유망주 신수민 양(체육), 활발한 스카우트 활동을 펼치며 후배 대원들에게 귀감이 되고 있는 변홍준 군(스카우트)이 선정됐습니다. 올해의 수상자 4명의 면면을 살펴보면 각자의 영역에서 밝게 빛나는 원석을 보는 듯합니다. 여러분들이 꿈과 희망을 가지고 변화에 도전하고, 자신의 목표를 이루어 나가면서 다른 사람을 존중하고 배려한다면, 우리사회에 꼭 필요한 사람으로 성장할 것이라고 확신합니다. 또한, 지금까지 자녀를 믿고 지지하고 응원해주신 가족들과 관계자분들에게 감사의 박수를 보냅니다. 또 주목받지 못하는 가운데에서 자신의 꿈을 이루기 위해 땀 흘리고 있는 우리 시대의 모든 젊은이들에게도 뜨거운 격려와 응원의 박수를 보냅니다.

Nice to meet the winners and guests who attended today’s awards ceremony. This is Moon Il-suk, a member of the Youth Hero Award judging committee. I am very happy and meaningful to be with you today at the 17th Youth Hero Awards ceremony.
We would like to thank Kang Tae-sun, president of the Korea Scout Federation, who hosted the event, the committee members who took on the difficult task of selecting the winners, and the relevant staff. We sincerely congratulate the winners of today's prestigious Youth Hero Award for achieving their goals and dreams and for their extraordinary achievements for those in need. We will not spare a round of applause for the proud youth who did not receive the award. The Korean Scout Federation promotes various youth activities to help young people develop their talents and capabilities and grow into key talents of the future. In particular, we will award this award to our young people who are future dreamers with outstanding talent and growth potential. I feel greatly rewarded for being able to do so.
This committee received candidate recommendations from overseas embassies, youth-related organizations, elementary, middle, high schools, and universities from the Korea Scout Federation, and selected winners in a total of four categories after careful screening and verification. The committee did its best to select the most qualified recipients who fit the purpose of this award and the Korean Scout Association's social contribution efforts. Potential for growth was the top priority in selecting winners each year. We considered not only the achievements of the awardees but also how much they can grow in the future as important evaluation indicators, and also considered whether they could empathize and inspire many people.
