‘열린 관광지 조성사업’은 장애인, 고령자, 임산부, 영유아 동반 가족 등 이동 취약계층의 관광 향유권을 보장하기 위한 것으로, 주로 관광 시설물의 보행로를 정비하고 몸이 불편한 사람도 체험할 수 있는 신규 콘텐츠가 도입되는 것을 골자로 한다.
이번 공모엔 12개 자치단체 30개 관광지점이 참여했으며, 현장 심사를 포함한 총 3차례의 심사 과정을 거쳐 최종 사업 대상지를 선정하게 된다.
영덕군은 이번 공모 선정을 통해 확보한 국비 5억 원에 지방비 5억 원을 더해 누구나 불편함 없이 대상 관광지를 누릴 수 있도록 보행 환경을 개선하고 주요 관광지 간 이동 편의성을 확대하는 데 힘을 쏟을 계획이다.
이에 고래불해수욕장엔 휠체어 매트와 수상 휠체어 등의 체험 콘텐츠를 운영하고, 괴시민속마을은 휠체어가 쉽게 드나들 수 있도록 고택 입구를 개선하게 된다.
또한 영덕군의 다양한 볼거리와 즐길거리를 누구나 편리하고 누릴 수 있도록 주요 관광지점을 연결하는 무장애 투어버스 운영도 추진할 예정이다.
