본지(브레이크뉴스)와 기사/사진 사용 제휴관계인 뉴시스는 11월21일자 “검찰, 여신도 성폭행 혐의 JMS 정명석에 징역 30년 구형” 제목의 기사에서 “여신도를 성폭행하거나 추행한 혐의로 재판에 넘겨진 JMS 기독교복음선교회 정명석(78)에게 검찰이 중형인 징역 30년을 구형했다”고 보도했습니다.
이어 “대전지법 제12형사부(재판장 나상훈)는 21일 오전 10시 230호 법정에서 준(準) 강간, 준(準) 유사강간, 준(準) 강제추행, 강제추행 혐의로 기소된 정명석에 대한 결심 공판을 진행했다. 검찰은 이날 '종교 단체 교주인 피고인이 스스로 메시아 행세하며 JMS 조직을 이용해 다수의 여신도를 상대로 성범죄를 저지르는 등 매우 중대한 범죄를 저질렀다'라며 '피고인과 JMS 내 여성 간부들은 피해자들에게 피고인을 메시아로 믿도록 세뇌한 뒤 피해자들의 신뢰를 악용해 성범죄를 저질렀으며 피해자들이 강력한 처벌을 원하고 있다'라고 말했다”고 전했습니다.

지난 9월25일 필자의 저서 ”나는 정명석을 만나러 간다“가 출간(대양미디어)돼, 교보문고 집계 베스트셀러 13위까지 올라가기도 했습니다.
이와 관련, 필자는 지난 2023년 11월18일 기독교복음선교회(JMS) 홍보실(경기도 광명시 한내일로 41 광명교회)과 단독 인터뷰를 가졌습니다. “나는 정명석을 만나러 간다”라는 책이 베스트셀러에 진입, 이와 관련한 인터뷰였습니다.
필자는 이 인터뷰에서 “지난 3월, 한 유명한 방송이 라디오를 통해 JMS 정명석 목사님 관련기사를 내보냈는데, 경천동지할 내용이 보도됐습니다. 이와 관련, A일보는 지난 3월14일자 보도기사에서 “K교수는 14일 OO라디오 ‘이슈 앤 피플’ 인터뷰에서 피해자 규모를 묻는 진행자의 말에 '평소 정명석이 했던 말이 ‘나는 1만명을 성적 구원을 통해 하늘의 애인으로 만드는 게 지상 목표’였다'라며 '즉 1만명을 성폭행하는 게 목표라고 본인 스스로 얘기를 해 왔고, 제가 그 사람의 행태를 관측해 온 결과로는 그 사람은 오로지 성폭행에 매진했던 사람이기 때문에 그 사람의 목표를 초과 달성하지 않았을까 생각한다'고 밝혔다”고 보도했습니다.”라고 설명하고 “남성 1명이 1만명 이상의 여성을 성폭행했다는 기사는 분명코 가짜-과장 보도였기 때문일 겁니다. 그 후, 언론의 왜곡 과장보도에 문제가 있다는 것을 추적했는데, 이런 기사들이 모아져 단행본이 됐습니다. 기자란, 사실을 기록하는 임무를 띤 사람들입니다. 이 책은 처음부터 끝까지가 사실기록입니다.”라고 피력했습니다.
이어 “세계 각국 곳곳에서 사실을 담지 않은, 매카시즘적 발언-폭로성 보도들이 종종 나오지만, 종국에는 흐지부지 없어지곤 합니다. 올 들어 한국사회의 지독한 사회문제 중의 하나로 떠올랐던 기독교복음선교회(세칭 JMS) 정명석 목사의 준(準) 강간 사건이, 필자의 눈에는 매카시즘적 사건으로 비쳐졌습니다. 이 사건이 왜 매카시즘적일까요? -간단하게 브레이크뉴스 대표(발행인)님의 소개 부탁드립니다.
▲올해 50년째 기자로 활동하고 있습니다. 시사 주간신문인 토요신문, 그리고 일요서울의 편집국장을 역임했습니다. 지난 1997년에는 시사 주간신문 주간현대를 창간, 지금까지 발행인으로 있습니다. 또 지난 2003년부터는 인터넷 신문 브레이크뉴스의 발행인으로 있으며, 20년째 이 신문의 사주(社主)입니다. 작가로서 30여 권의 책을 썼습니다. 대표 저서로는 '비록 중앙정보부(전3권)'를 내세웁니다. 아직까지는 '평생 기자'이자 '평생 작가'로 살아왔습니다.
-50년 르포 작가로써 다양한 인물과 사건을 다뤄왔을 텐데, 현재 베스트셀러인 <나는 정명석을 만나러간다> 책을 출간하신 이유가 궁금합니다.

그 후, 언론의 왜곡 과장보도에 문제가 있다는 것을 추적했는데, 이런 기사들이 모아져 단행본이 됐습니다. 기자란, 사실을 기록하는 임무를 띤 사람들입니다. 이 책은 처음부터 끝까지가 사실기록입니다.

-저희 단체를 지켜보고 월명동을 취재하시면서 언론보도와 달리 실제는 어떠셨나요?
▲지난 2010년, 충남 진산군 월명동 JMS 자연성전에 취재를 갔었습니다. 월명동 자연성전의 규모는 47만평에 달합니다. 어마어마한 규모의 자연 성전이었습니다. 월명동 자연교회 성전은 세계적인 자연교회 성전이라고 말할 수 있습니다.
일본에 우찌무라 간조라는 기독교 사상가가 있습니다. 이 분은 무교회주의자입니다. 성경의 내용을 실천하는 자리가 곧 기독교라는 것입니다. 우찌무라 간조가 지적한 것처럼, JMS의 월명동 자연성전은 성경의 내용을 실천하는 장소일 것입니다. 자연의 삼라만상 하나하나가 신의 창조물이니 숲속에 핀 야생화 한 송이에서도 진실한 하나님의 설교를 들을 수 있다는 것입니다. 월명동 자연성전은, 정명석 목사님의 시대에 앞선 커다란 구상(빅 아이디어)이라고 생각합니다. 이 자연 성전을 보기 위해 세계인들이 찾아오고 있습니다. 이거야말로 대한민국 국익 산업의 하나라고 봅니다.

-월명동을 '아방궁, 감금 폐쇄적인 곳'이라는, 악의적인 보도가 나갔는데 월명동을 취재하신 후 느낀 점과 월명동은 어떤 곳이라 생각하나요?
▲아, 월명동에 대해 “아방궁, 감금 폐쇄적인 곳”이라는 보도가 있었군요. 월명동 성전은 개활지에 만들어진 성전입니다. 온 사방이 툭 터져있습니다. 둘레에 철조망이 쳐진 것도 아닙니다. 낮은 야산에 만들어진 성전입니다. 일부 언론의 “아방궁, 감금 폐쇄적인 곳”이라는 내용의 보도들은 가짜 중의 가짜라고 할 수 있습니다. 월명동에 가 보지도 않고 쓴 기사라는 생각이 듭니다.
-현재 정명석 목사님께서 과장된 언론 플레이로 어려움을 겪고 계시는데 이면에 어떤 것들이 작용했을까요?
▲저는 제 저서 “정명석을 만나러 간다”에서 “기존 기성교단의 시기나 내부 이탈자들이 파 놓은 함정에 빠졌을 수도 있다고 봤습니다. 그리고 일부 언론들의 터무니없는 과장-왜곡보도도 문제입니다. 시간이 흐르면 사실에 따른 진실이 얼굴을 드러낼 것이라 생각합니다. 정명석 목사님은 1966-1969년까지 베트남 전쟁에 두 번이나 참전하신 애국군인 출신이십니다. JMS 교인들이 단합해서 정의로운 판결을 요구하는 평화시위를 하는 것은 애국운동이라고 생각합니다. 가짜뉴스가 사실을 이기지는 못합니다. 결국, 진실이 승리할 것입니다.
