울진 범군민대책위원회, ‘고준위 방사성폐기물 관리 특별법’ 신속 제정 촉구

【브레이크뉴스 울진】이우근 기자=울진군(군수 손병복) 범군민대책위원회는 지난 21일 국회를 찾아 ‘고준위 방사성폐기물 관리 특별법’의 신속한 제정 촉구를 위한 건의서를 국회에 전달했다.

이날, 범군민대책위원회는 고준위 방사성폐기물 관리시설의 부지선정과 건설 및 운영에 대한 구체적인 일정 명시, 사용후핵연료의 원전 부지 내 저장시설을 영구화 하지 않을 것을 보장, 원전 부지 내 신규 저장시설은 지역주민의 동의 절차를 거칠 것 등을 건의했다.

김윤기 범군민대책위원회위원장은“하루빨리 고준위 방사성 폐기물 관리 특별법이 제정되어 사용후핵연료에 대한 원전 소재 지역주민들의 우려가 해소되길 바란다”라고 말했다.

한편 울진은 1981년 한울원전 1호기 착공을 시작으로 2022년 신한울 1호기 상업 운전, 2024년 신한울 2호기 준공예정, 신한울 3, 4호기 건설 재개로 총 10기의 국내 최대 원전 소재 지역으로 지금까지 안정적인 전력 생산과 공급에 적극 협조해 대한민국의 산업 발전과 경제성장에 큰 기여를 해왔다.

손병복 울진군수는“사용후핵연료는 중간 저장시설과 영구처분시설로 이동하기 전까지 상당한 기간 원전 내에 보관해야 하기에, 주민의 불안감 해소를 위해 고준위 특별법이 조속히 제정되길 바란다”며 “이는 5개 원전 지역 지자체와 주민의 공통적인 의견으로 6월과 11월 두 차례 국회에 건의를 한 바 있으며, 여야 간 정치적 입장을 떠나 법을 반드시 제정해 주시기를 바란다”고 말했다.
