국가철도공단 김한영 이사장은 1일 동해선 거제역에 조성중인 ‘키즈레일(Kids Rail) 거제역 어린이집’ 공사현장을 방문해 철저한 공정관리와 안전사고 예방을 당부했다.

철도공단에 따르면 ‘키즈레일 거제역 어린이집’은 거제역을 이용 출·퇴근 하는 맞벌이부부와 지역주민들을 위해 철도공단이 거제역 유휴부지인 역 광장을 활용해 어린이집을 조성하는 사업이다.

거제역 어린이집은 역 광장의 지상 1층에 연면적 363.9㎡, 옥외 놀이공간 196.38㎡ 규모로 조성되며 현재 공사는 마무리 단계로 오는 3월 개원 예정이다. 연제구와의 협업을 통해 국공립어린이집으로 운영된다.

한편, 철도공단은 보육부담을 해소하기 위해 2019년 평내호평역 어린이집 개원을 시작으로 여주역, 탄현역, 행신역 어린이집을 개원했으며 오는 3월 정읍역, 부산 연제구 거제역이 개원을 앞두고 있다.
