파주시가 지난 15일, 국민행복민원실 2층 회의실에서 개최한 성매매피해자 등의 자활지원위원회를 통해 다섯 번째 성매매 피해자 지원을 결정했다.
이로써 파주시에 탈성매매를 결심하고 자활지원을 신청한 피해자는 지난해 4명에 이어 5명으로 늘었으며, 이번 신청자는 2024년 첫 번째 자활지원 대상자이기도 하다.

파주시에 따르면 자활지원조례 제정 이후 1년 안에 지원자가 5명이나 나온 건 타 지자체의 사례를 비추어 볼 때 이례적인 성과다.
신청자는 상담소를 통해 앞선 지원 사례와 파주시의 지속적인 집결지 폐쇄 추진 의지를 듣고 신청을 결심한 것으로 알려졌다.
파주시는 지난해부터 여성친화도시 파주 완성을 위해 성매매집결지 폐쇄를 중점 사업으로 추진하면서 5월에는 성매매피해자 지원을 위한 「파주시 성매매피해자 등의 자활지원 조례」를 제정했다.
조례에 따라 지원대상자로 결정되면 2년간 생계비, 주거지원비, 직업훈련비를 지원받을 수 있으며, 조례에 명시된 최대 4,420만 원의 지원금 외에도 의료지원, 법률지원, 치료회복 프로그램 등을 모두 지원받을 수 있다. 특히 양육하고 있는 18세 미만의 자녀가 있다면 동반 자녀를 위한 생계비 지원도 가능하다.
다만, 접수 기간은 한시적으로 올해 12월 31일에 모두 종료되며, 기간 내 신청하면 이후 2년간 지원받을 수 있다.
