파주소방서는 21일 대회의실에서 제3회 의용소방대의 날을 맞아 대원들의 숭고한 봉사와 희생정신을 알리고 그 업적을 기리기 위해 기념행사를 가졌다고 밝혔다.
의용소방대의 날 지정 의미는 1958년 3월 ‘소방법’에 의해 의용소방대의 설치 근거가 마련된 날은 3월 11일과 ‘119’를 조합해 3월 19일로 정해졌다.

파주에는 전담의용소방대를 포함 19개대 400여명의 의용소방대원으로 구성되어 있으며 각종 재난현장 지원을 비롯하여 화재예방, 사회취약계층 대상으로 봉사활동 등 지역주민들의 안전을 위해 앞장서고 있는 봉사단체로 평가되며 파주시민들로부터 큰 신뢰를 받고 있다.
이번 행사는 이상태 파주소방서장, 김경일 파주시장, 윤후덕 국회의원, 박정 국회의원, 이성철 시의장, 조성환 도의원, 이한국 도의원, 안명규 도의원, 윤희정 부의장, 최유각 시의원 등 주요 내·외빈이 참석한 가운데 각종 재난현장에서 시민의 생명과 재산을 보호하고 시정 발전에 공헌한 의용소방대원에게 표창을 수여했다.
