지난해 처음 개최하면서 세종시민들로부터 찬사를 받은 ‘세종낙화축제’가 오는 11일 오후 7시 30분부터 세종중앙공원 잔디마당 일원에서 개최된다.
밤하늘을 배경으로 5,000여 개의 낙화봉에서 떨어지는 환상적인 불씨를 감상할 수 있는 ‘2024 세종낙화축제’는 오후 5시 40분부터 1부 봉축대법회가 진행되며 본격적인 낙화 행사는 오후 7시 30분부터 10시 30분까지 약 3시간에 걸쳐 진행된다.
낙화(落火)는 낙화봉에 불을 붙여 불씨가 떨어지는 모양과 소리를 함께 즐기는 전통 놀이이자 의식으로, 세종불교낙화법은 지난 2월 세종시 무형문화재로 지정됐다.
세종시는 올해 불교낙화법보존회(회장 환성스님)와 함께 지난해에 이어 낙화축제를 공동으로 개최하고 시 무형 문화유산을 널리 알릴 계획이다.

이밖에 행사장에는 오후 12시부터 6시까지 다양한 전통문화체험 부스를 운영해 관람객들의 눈과 귀를 더욱 즐겁게 할 예정이다.

국립세종수목원 야간 개장 임시운영과 연계한 무료입장 이벤트도 진행한다.
낙화축제를 찾은 관람객을 위한 수목원 무료입장은 오는 11일 오후 6시부터 9시까지며 국립세종수목원 본 야간 개장은 5월 18일부터 10월 12일까지 매주 금·토요일 운영한다.
환성스님(불교낙화법보존회장)은 “재앙소멸과 복을 기원하기 위한 불교낙화법은 세종지역에서만 유일하게 전승되어 오고 있는 전례의식”이라며 “여기 참석하신 모든 분의 가정에 행복과 희망이 가득하시기를 기원드린다”고 전했다.
