국방부는 지난해까지 2만 7000여명의 무공훈장 수훈자를 찾아낸 바 있다.
이날 무공훈장 전수식에 참석한 故김성관 이병 동생 김수진 씨는 “형님의 희생을 잊지 않고 기억해줘 감사하다”며, “6?25전쟁으로 인해 희생하신 모든 분들에게도 명예와 영광이 이어지길 기원한다”고 전했다.
주낙영 경주시장은 “늦게나마 유가족에게 훈장을 전달해 드릴 수 있어 기쁘고 영광스럽다”며 “경주시는 앞으로도 조국의 자유와 평화를 위해 목숨을 바친 영웅들의 국가를 위한 희생이 헛되지 않도록 유공자 예우 및 복지증진에 최선을 다하겠다”고 강조했다.
