100년 자란 향나무가
수명을 다해 죽었다네.
어떤 나무에게
'살아 천년, 죽어 천년'이라 했는데
그 향나무
솟대 만들어 세웠더니
은은한 향(香) 늘상 새어 나오네
향나무 잔가지도
화단에
솟대마냥 꽂아뒀더니
미세한 향나무 향 솔솔 새어 나오네.
향나무 향을 맡으면서
사람 향기 생각해 봤네.
나무도 향기 내는데
사람인들 향기 없겠는가.
늘 풀풀 향기(香氣) 나는
사람이 그립다, 그 사람이 그립다.
[시작(詩作) 메모]지은 지 100여년 된 한옥을 떠 받치고 있는 향나무 기둥에 못을 박으려 했다. 나무가 너무 단단해서 못이 박히지 않는다. 전기 드릴로 구멍을 뚫어 못을 박게 됐다. 이때 향나무 기둥에서 향이 나기 시작했다. 그 나무는 나무속에 긴 연륜, 1 세기가 넘도록 향(香)을 간직하고 있었다. 나무가 그런데, 하물며 사람인들 그 사람에게만 있는 '인간적인 향(香)'이 있지 않겠는가? 시인인 나는 오늘도 그 향을 그리워하며 삽니다. moonilsuk@naver.com

[Beginning (poetry note)] I was trying to drive a nail into the juniper pillar supporting a hanok that was built about 100 years ago. The wood is so hard that nails can't stick into it. I drilled holes with an electric drill and drove in nails. At this time, a scent began to emanate from the juniper tree pillar. The tree had a long life cycle and retained its scent for over a century. Trees are like that, but don't people have a 'human scent' that only they have?
