대통령실이 14일 전현희 더불어민주당 의원의 '살인자' 발언 관련해 "근거 없는 일방적 주장에 근거해 거친 말을 쏟아낸 건 한 인간에 대한 인권 유린이고 국민을 향한 모독"이라며 "공식 사과와 납득할 만한 설명을 요구한다"고 밝혔다.
정혜전 대통령실 대변인은 이날 오후 용산 대통령실 브리핑에서 "권익위원회 고위 간부 죽음에 대해 다시 한 번 깊은 애도·위로를 표한다"며 이같이 말했다.
전 의원은 이날 국회 법제사법위원회에서 김건희 여사 명품백 수수 의혹 관련 조사를 담당한 권익위 간부가 숨진 사건에 대해 "김건희·윤석열이 죽인 것이다. 살인자"라고 발언해 큰 물의를 빚었다.
정 대변인은 "공직자의 안타까운 죽음마저 또다시 정치 공세에 활용하는 야당의 저열한 행태에 안타까움을 금할 수 없다"며 "국민이 뽑은 대한민국 대통령 가족을 향해 차마 입에 담지 못할 막말을 내뱉었다"고 비판했다.
그러면서 "걸핏하면 공무원들을 국회로 불러 윽박지르고 자신들 말을 듣지 않으면 공무원 연금까지 박탈할 수 있다는 협박성 발언을 하는 등 공직 사회를 압박해 결과적으로 고인을 죽음에 이르게 한 건 다름아닌 민주당"이라고 지적했다.
또 "야당이 일말의 책임을 느낀다면 고인 죽음을 두고 정쟁화하는 건 당장 그만둬야 한다"며 "막말을 내뱉은 전직 권익위원장 전 의원은 권익위를 황폐하게 만든 일말의 책임감도 느껴지지 않는지 의문"이라고 말했다.
더불어 "민생을 논의해야 할 국회가 무책임한 말을 내뱉는 해방구가 된 점에 대해 국민들은 분노할 것"이라고 덧붙였다.
