브레이크뉴스 정민우 기자= 최태원 SK 회장이 “AI가 가져오는 변화들이 우리에게는 모두 기회라고 생각하고 있다”며 “이 트렌드를 잘 활용해 변화를 빨리 이끌어 나가는 것이 우리가 AI 생태계에서 살아남는 방법이 될 것이다”고 강조했다.
최 회장은 지난 21일 열린 ‘이천포럼 2024’ 마무리 세션에서 AI 시장의 미래 전망에 대해 “지금 확실하게 돈을 버는 것은 AI 밸류체인이며, 빅테크들도 경쟁 우위를 점하기 위해 많은 투자를 하고 있다”며 “중간에 덜컹거리는 과정이 있겠지만 AI 산업은 우상향으로 발전할 수밖에 없다”고 전망했다.
이번 이천포럼의 마무리 세션은 최태원 회장이 온·오프라인으로 참석한 SK 구성원들과 실시간으로 소통하며, AI 시대의 성장 전망과 이에 발맞춘 SK그룹의 미래 사업 밑그림에 대한 자신의 생각을 밝히는 방식으로 진행됐다.
최 회장은 “AI 성장 트렌드가 계속되면 SK는 AI 데이터센터에 들어가는 하드웨어 관련 비즈니스, LLM 등과 같은 서비스모델을 추진할 수 있다”며 “그 과정에서 어려운 부분도 있지만, 언젠가 비즈니스 모델이 구축되고 나면 전체적인 순환 사이클이 돌 수 있는 상황이 될 것으로 본다”고 내다봤다.
최 회장은 최근 엔비디아, TSMC, 오픈AI, MS, 아마존, 인텔 등 글로벌 AI 사업을 이끄는 빅테크들과 만나 협력 방안을 논의하며, 얻은 인사이트에 대해서도 구성원과 공유했다.
최 회장은 “빅테크들은 AI 데이터센터에서 막대한 에너지가 필요하기 때문에 향후 원자력을 사용해야 한다는 생각을 공통적으로 갖고 있었다”며 “그로 인해 에너지 믹스에 변화가 생기면, 우리에게는 새로운 기회가 될 것이다”고 말했다.

‘현대 인공지능의 아버지’로 불리는 위르겐 슈미트후버 사우디 왕립 과학기술대 교수를 비롯해, 잭 카스 前 Open AI GTM 담당 임원, 짐 스나베 지멘스 이사회 의장 등 글로벌 AI 전문가들도 참석해 AI와 DT(디지털 전환)가 바꿀 미래에 대해 강연과 토론을 이어갔다.
