윤석열 대통령이 9일 신임 대통령경호처장(차관급)에 박종준 전 대통령경호실 차장(60)을 임명한다.
경호처 등에 따르면 이날 오후 신임 경호처장 취임식이 열린다. 박 처장은 전임 김용현 처장이 국방장관으로 자리를 옮기면서 윤석열 정부 두 번째 경호처장직을 수행케 됐다.
박 신임 처장은 경찰대 행정학과(2기)를 수석 졸업 후 제29회 행정고시에 최연소 합격한 경찰내 '기획통' 평가를 받은 인물이다.
박 처장은 평창경찰서장·공주경찰서장·경찰대 교무과장·경찰청 마약수사과장 등을 거쳐 청와대 민정수석실 행정관·서울마포경찰서장·충남지방경찰청장·경찰청 차장 등을 역임했다.
지난 2012년 19대 국회의원 선거에서 새누리당 후보로 충남 공주 선거구에 출마했으나 낙선 이후 2013년 박근혜 정부 청와대에서 대통령경호실 차장에 발탁된 바 있다. 또 지난 2016년 20대 총선에 세종시로 지역구를 바꿔 출마했으나 재차 낙선했다.
