[브레이크뉴스=정철규 기자] ’진주시는 27일 오후 5시께 진주성 촉석문 앞에 조성된 ‘진주대첩 역사공원’ 준공식을 개최한다고 25일 밝혔다.
이날 준공식은 풍물단의 터울림을 시작으로 팝페라 공연, 어린이합창단 공연 등 의 식전행사와 식후 행사로 뮤지컬 ‘촉석산성 아리아’가 공연될 예정이다.
진주대첩 역사공원은 지난 2007년 5월 타당성조사 및 기본계획 수립을 시작으로 10여 년간의 대규모 보상 및 철거를 완료, 지난 2018년 부터 3여 년간 매장유산 발굴조사가 이뤄졌다.
이후 국가유산청의 허가과정을 거친 후 지난 2022년 2월 총사업비는 947억원을 투입해 대지면적 1만9870㎡에 연면적 7081㎡규모로 지하층과 지상층으로 완공해 오는 27일 준공식을 갖게 됐다.
시는 진주대첩 역사공원 사업 착공시기를 전후해 시에서는 복합문화공간 조성, 진주시역사관 건립사업 추진으로 역사공원 주변은 환경과 상호 시너지효과를 극대화한다는 방침이다.
진주시는 진주대첩 역사공원이 진주대첩 승리의 원동력인 의병정신이 호국.평등.나눔.인본 정신을 근간으로 하는 ‘진주정신’으로 계승된 중심축 역할을 할 것으로 기대하고 있다.
진주시 관계자는 “진주대첩 역사공원은 복합문화공간, 진주역사관과 청년허브하우스 시설과 함께 천년고도 진주의 역사, 문화, 교육이 어우러진 명품 공간이 될 것이다”고 말했다.
이어 그는 “시민들과 관광객 방문이 늘어나 구도심 활성화 등 시너지 효과가 상당할 것으로 기대된다”며“역사현장이 관광자원으로 탈바꿈해 원도심에 활력을 불어넣을 것”이라고 덧붙였다.
