한국유나이티드제약이 세종시와 함께 기회발전특구 기업으로 대규모 투자에 나선다고 11월 15일 밝혔다.
대통령직속 지방시대위원회는 세종시의 첨단산업 거점 3곳을 기회발전특구로 최종 지정했으며, 이에 따라 한국유나이티드제약은 첨단소재·부품사업화지구에 공장 건립을 위한 투자를 결정했다.
지난 11월 6일, 강원도 춘천에서 열린 지방시대 엑스포에서 한국유나이티드제약은 세종시와 투자협약을 체결했다. 협약에 따라 회사는 세종시에 총 638억 원을 투자하여 의약품 생산공장을 건립하고, 이를 통해 일자리 창출에 기여할 예정이다.
한국유나이티드제약은 최근 세종시 전동일반사업단지에 약 8000평의 부지를 매입하고 공장 신축을 계획하고 있다. 오는 연말 착공을 목표로 하며, 2029년 완공을 목표로 하고 있다. 이는 개량신약의 매출 증대에 대비한 선제적인 생산능력 확대의 일환이다.
협약식에 참석한 강원호 한국유나이티드제약 대표는 “기회발전특구의 일원이 되어 영광으로 생각한다”며, “앞으로 지역 사회와의 상생을 통해 지역 경제 활성화 및 발전에 기여하겠다”는 포부를 밝혔다.
한편, 기회발전특구는 현 정부의 지방시대 핵심 정책으로, 지방에 대규모 투자를 촉진하기 위해 수도권에서 지방으로 이전하거나 창업 또는 신·증설하는 기업들에게 다양한 혜택을 지원하는 제도다.
United Pharmaceuticals makes major investment in Sejong City

United Pharmaceuticals Korea announced on Nov. 15 that it will make a large-scale investment as an Opportunity Development Zone company with Sejong City.
The Presidential Committee on Local Era has finally designated three high-tech industrial bases in Sejong City as Opportunity Development Zones, and Korea United Pharma has decided to invest in building a factory in the Advanced Materials and Components Commercialization Zone.
On November 6, at the Local Era Expo in Chuncheon, Gangwon-do, Korea United Pharmaceuticals signed an investment agreement with Sejong City. Under the agreement, the company will invest a total of KRW 63.8 billion to build a pharmaceutical manufacturing plant in Sejong City, contributing to job creation.
The company recently purchased about 8,000 square meters of land in Sejong's Jeonjeon General Business Complex and plans to build a new factory. It aims to break ground by the end of the year and is scheduled for completion in 2029. This is part of a proactive expansion of production capacity in preparation for increased sales of improved drugs.
“We are honored to be a part of the Opportunity Development Zone,” said Kang Kang-ho, CEO of Korea United Pharmaceuticals, who attended the signing ceremony. ”We will contribute to the revitalization and development of the local economy through win-win cooperation with the local community.”
The Opportunity Development Zone is a key policy of the current government in the local era, and is a system that provides various benefits to companies that relocate from the metropolitan area to the local area, start up, or expand in order to promote large-scale investment in the local area.
