본지(브레이크뉴스)는 12월16일 자 “김병주 의원 "한동훈 암살조, 미국서 나온 것..대통령실 전부 도청" 제목의 기사에서 김병주 더불어민주당 의원이 주장한 미국의 한국 대통령실 도청 주장 내용을 기사화 했다.

이 기사에서 “육군 대장 출신인 김병주 더불어민주당 의원은 12월16일 비상계엄 당시 계엄군이 한동훈 국민의힘 대표 암살조를 운영하려 했다는 의혹에 대해 '미국 측에선 많은 정보가 흘러나오고 있다"면서 "사실일 가능성에 무게를 두고 있다'고 밝혔다”고 보도했다.
이 내용은 김병주 의원이 이날 CBS라디오 '김현정의 뉴스쇼'에 출연한 가운데 밝힌 내용을 소개한 것이다. 김병주 의원은 이 방송에 출연해서 “미국은 지금도 한국 대통령 실을 다 도청하고 있을 것이라 본다"고 주장했다.
그는 이 방송에 출연 "지난 12월12일 브레드 셔먼 미국 하원 의원의 '북한이 도발한 것처럼 상황을 연출해도 미국은 알 수 있다'는 발언이 나오지 않았나 싶다"면서 “계속 확인 중에 있다"고 덧붙였다.
김병주 의원이 주장한 위의 내용은 김어준 방송인의 주장에 편승한 것으로 보인다. 김어준 방송인은 지난 12월13일 국회 과학기술정보방송통신위원회 전체회의에 참고인으로 출석 "(계엄 발표 후) 체포조가 아니라 암살조가 가동된다는 것과 체포돼 이송되는 한동훈 국민의힘 대표를 사살하려 했다는 내용의 제보를 받았다. 제가 이 내용을 김병주 의원에게 최초로 알렸고, 몇 시간 후 김 의원은 "사실이다"라고 답해줬다"고 주장한 바 있다.
