울릉도 중학생, 미국 어학연수 실시...글로벌 인재로 도약

【브레이크뉴스 울릉】전종환 기자=울릉군(군수 남한권)은 울릉중학교 2학년 학생 20명이 국제경험 기회와 글로벌 인재성장을 목표로 1월 17일부터 2월 12일까지 미국어학연수(TKAP: Tucson-Korea Ambassador Program)를 실시한다고 밝혔다.

군에 따르면 이번 연수는 미국 애리조나주 투산시에서 실시하며, 현지문화를 직접 경험하며 글로벌마인드를 기를 수 있도록 설계되어, 학생들은 미국의 공립학교 정규수업에서 영어실력을 키우고, 현지 학생들과 교류하며 홈스테이를 통해 국제적인시각과 협력능력을 배울 예정이다.

또한, 단순히 교실 내 학습에 그치지 않고 투산의 주요 명소를 주 1회이상 방문하는 현장체험학습을 통해 미국의 역사, 자연, 문화를 직접 느끼고 배우는 기회도 갖게 된다.

남한권 울릉군수는 “이번 프로그램을 통해 학생 개인의 성장을 넘어 지역사회에도 긍정적인 변화를 가져올 것으로 기대하고 있다.”며 “글로벌 인재로 성장한 학생들이 향후 울릉도의 발전에 기여할 뿐만 아니라, 울릉도가 국제사회와 교류할 수 있는 기반을 다지는 계기가 되어 섬 지역 교육의 새로운 가능성을 보여주는 좋은 사례로 평가될 것”이라 전했다.

한편, 이번 프로그램이 끝난 후, 연수 중 우리 학생과 1대1로 매칭된 현지 미국학생들을 한국으로 초청해 울릉도의 문화와 대한민국의 전통을 알리는 후속 프로그램이 진행될 예정이며, 이를 통해 양국 학생간의 깊은 우정과 문화적 이해를 도모하고, 울릉도가 세계와 연결될 수 있는 기반을 마련하게 될 예정이다.

Ulleung County (Governor Nam Han-kwon) announced that 20 second-year students from Ulleung Middle School will conduct an American language training program (TKAP: Tucson-Korea Ambassador Program) from January 17 to February 12 with the goal of gaining international experience and growing into global talents.

According to the county, this training program will be held in Tucson, Arizona, USA, and is designed to foster a global mindset while experiencing local culture firsthand. Students will improve their English skills in regular classes at public schools in the USA, interact with local students, and learn international perspectives and cooperation skills through homestays.

In addition, they will have the opportunity to directly experience and learn American history, nature, and culture through field experience learning where they visit major tourist attractions in Tucson at least once a week, rather than simply learning in the classroom.

The Ulleung County Governor of Namhan said, “We expect this program to bring about positive changes to the local community beyond the individual growth of the students.” He added, “Not only will the students who have grown into global talents contribute to the future development of Ulleungdo, but it will also serve as an opportunity to lay the foundation for Ulleungdo to interact with the international community, and it will be evaluated as a good example that shows new possibilities for education in the island region.”

Meanwhile, after this program ends, a follow-up program will be held in which local American students who were matched one-on-one with our students during the training will be invited to Korea to introduce Ulleungdo’s culture and Korean traditions.
