최상목 대통령 권한대행 경제부총리 겸 기획재정부 장관이 4일 "정부·국회·민간이 힘합쳐 당면한 미국발 통상전쟁에 총력 대응해야 한다"고 밝혔다.
최 권한대행은 이날 오전 서울 종로구 정부서울청사에서 열린 제9회 국무회의 모두 발언에서 "그 어느 때보다도 대한민국 생존·번영을 위한 통합의 힘이 절실하다"며 이같이 강조했다.
그러면서 "미국발 자국 우선주의가 전 세계를 뒤흔들며 국제정세가 요동치고 있다"며 "영원한 우방, 적도 없다는 냉혹한 국제질서를 절감하는 요즘"이라고 말했다.
또 "전례 없는 정치적 불확실성 속에서 민생·경제 어려움이 가중되고 미국발 통상전쟁 등 국가적으로 엄중한 시기"라며 "이 같은 위기 상황에서 민생과 대한민국 미래를 위한 돌파구를 마련하고, 국민 통합 시금석을 놓아야 할 곳은 여·야·정부가 함께하는 '국회·정부 국정협의회'"라고 강조했다.
이어 "지난 금요일 베센트 미 재무장관과 화상 면담을 통해 굳건한 한·미동맹을 재확인하고 경제·통상·안보·금융 협력방안과 함께 우리 요청사항을 확실히 전달했다"며 "산업부 장관은 지난주 러트닉 미 상무부 장관 등과 만나 조선·첨단산업 등 전략산업 협력 강화방안을 협의하고 관세 면제를 요청했다"고 밝혔다.
더불어 "한·미 양국은 관세 조치 논의와 조선 협력 강화 등을 위한 실무 협의체를 가동키로 합의했다"며 "정부는 우리 기업 등과 원팀 돼 국익을 지키는 데 모든 힘을 쏟아붓겠다"고 했다.

또 "대상 학생이 67만 명에 이르는 만큼 늘봄학교의 안정적 운영과 학교별 맞춤형 지원에 힘써고 특히 학생들 안전 귀가에 만전을 기해주길 당부드린다"며 "'AI 디지털교과서'는 올해부터 희망하는 모든 학교에서 선정·활용되며 AI를 활용한 맞춤형 학습은 공교육 질을 높이는 중요 계기가 될 것"이라고 했다.
이어 올해 고1 학생부터 전면 시행되는 '고교학점제'에 대해 "고교학점제가 성공적 정착할 수 있도록 교육부 중심으로 교육청·학교가 적극 협력해 운영 상황을 수시 점검하고 보완해 주기 바란다"고 당부했다.
더불어 "장차 우리 의료시스템 중추로서 국민 생명을 책임질 인재인 의대생 여러분들이 어서 학교로 돌아오길 진심으로 바란다"며 "정부는 원칙·가치를 지키면서 의학교육 정상화와 질적 제고를 위해 의료·의학교육계와 충분히 소통하며 지원하겠다"고 덧붙였다.
