산업화 시대, 호남인들의 수도권 지역 이주는 불가피했다. 농경사회의 전통을 이어왔던 호남의 발전이 더디었기 때문이다. 호남출신이 서울 구청장 다수를 차지한 적이 있다. 지금도 마찬가지이다. 각종 선거 때, 수도권 지역의 호남이주민들의 기표(記票) 성향은 고향인 호남지향적일 수 있다. 대통령 선거 때, 더욱 그럴 것이다.
이정현 새누리당 전 대표는 6.3 대통령 선거를 앞두고 지난 4월10일 국민의힘 당대 대통령 후보 경선에 출마를 선언했다. 그는 출마회견문에는 호남인 차별을 말라는 내용이 주를 이루었다.
