경주시는 지난 21일 검단일반산업단지에서 PMC바이오제닉스코리아㈜의 신규 공장 착공식을 개최했다고 밝혔다. 이날 행사에는 주낙영 경주시장을 비롯해 이동협 경주시의회 의장, 이상걸 경주상공회의소 회장, 존 키팅 PMC그룹 수석부사장, 이경련 PMC바이오제닉스코리아㈜ 사장 등 관계자 100여 명이 참석해 착공을 축하했다.
이번 사업은 지난해 5월 경상북도와 경주시, PMC바이오제닉스코리아㈜ 간 체결된 투자양해각서(MOU)에 따른 본격적인 사업 이행으로, 총 800억 원이 투입된다. 33,000㎡ 부지에 플라스틱 첨가제 및 PVC 안정제 생산시설이 조성될 예정이며, 이는 향후 기업 경쟁력 강화와 지역산업 구조 고도화에 중요한 전환점이 될 전망이다.
PMC바이오제닉스코리아㈜는 현재 경주시 황성동 용강공단에 위치한 기존 공장을 오는 2027년까지 검단산업단지로 이전하고, 동시에 생산시설도 증설할 계획이다. 이로 인해 약 50명의 신규 고용 창출과 함께 연매출 1,800억 원 달성을 목표로 하고 있다.
모회사인 PMC그룹은 미국에 본사를 둔 글로벌 화학기업으로, 1990년대부터 경주와 인연을 맺은 장기 투자 파트너다. 현재 미국, 프랑스, 인도 등 전 세계 6개국에서 생산시설을 운영하고 있으며, 첨단 기술력과 국제 경쟁력을 갖춘 기업으로 평가받고 있다.

Gyeongju City broke ground on a large-scale, cutting-edge production facility to be built in the Geomdan General Industrial Complex in Angang-eup.
Gyeongju City announced that it held a groundbreaking ceremony for PMC Biogenics Korea’s new plant in the Geomdan General Industrial Complex on the 21st. Approximately 100 people, including Gyeongju Mayor Joo Nak-young, Gyeongju City Council Chairman Lee Dong-hyeop, Gyeongju Chamber of Commerce Chairman Lee Sang-geol, PMC Group Senior Vice President John Keating, and PMC Biogenics Korea President Lee Kyung-ryeon, attended the event to celebrate the groundbreaking.
This project is a full-scale project implementation in accordance with the investment memorandum of understanding (MOU) signed between Gyeongsangbuk-do, Gyeongju City, and PMC Biogenics Korea in May of last year, and a total of 80 billion won will be invested. A plastic additive and PVC stabilizer production facility is scheduled to be built on a 33,000㎡ site, which is expected to be an important turning point in strengthening corporate competitiveness and upgrading the regional industrial structure in the future.
PMC Biogenics Korea Co., Ltd. plans to relocate its existing factory located in Yonggang Industrial Complex, Hwangseong-dong, Gyeongju-si to Geomdan Industrial Complex by 2027 and expand its production facilities at the same time. As a result, it aims to create approximately 50 new jobs and achieve annual sales of KRW 180 billion.
The parent company, PMC Group, is a global chemical company headquartered in the United States and has been a long-term investment partner with Gyeongju since the 1990s. It currently operates production facilities in six countries around the world, including the United States, France, and India, and is evaluated as a company with advanced technology and international competitiveness.
John Keating, Senior Vice President of PMC Group, said, “This new plant construction is part of PMC’s sustainable growth strategy and an important milestone in moving forward together with the Gyeongju community,” and added, “We will continue to enhance our competitiveness in the global market and make a substantial contribution to the local economy.”
