(브레이크뉴스인천 박상도 기자) 중부지방해양경찰청이 27일, 제30회 바다의 날(5월 31일)을 맞아 인천, 평택, 태안, 보령 등 관할 해양경찰서와 함께 오는 5월 말부터 6월 20일까지 해양쓰레기 정화활동과 해양환경 보전 캠페인을 순차적으로 실시한다고 밝혔다.
중부해경청에 따르면, 이번 캠페인은 해양환경 보호에 대한 국민의 관심을 높이고 깨끗한 바다를 만들기 위한 노력의 일환으로 각 해양경찰서 주관으로 해역별 해안가와 항포구 등에서 민.관.군이 함께 참여하는 합동 정화활동이 진행될 예정이다.
이와 함께 중부해경청은 연안 정화 외에도 국민이 직접 참여할 수 있는 블루카본 보호 캠페인, 해양환경보전 사진 전시회 등 다양한 해양환경 인식 개선 프로그램도 추진하고 있다.
한편, 중부해경청은 지난해 약 1,100여 명의 참여자와 어선 70척이 함께 약 8톤에 달하는 해양쓰레기 및 폐플라스틱을 수거한 바 있다.
중부해경청 관계자는 “이번 캠페인을 통해 기후위기와 해양쓰레기 문제에 대한 경각심을 높이고, 국민들이 해양환경 보전에 자발적으로 동참하는 계기가 되기를 기대한다”며, “바다를 사랑하는 국민 여러분의 많은 관심과 참여를 부탁드린다”고 전했다.
