인천해경에 따르면, 지난 8일 오후 9시 49분께 옹진군 영흥면 노가리해변 인근 해상에서 30~50대 남녀 5명이 고립됐다는 신고를 접수했다.
인천해경은 즉시 구조대, 파출소 연안구조정 등을 급파했다.
구조정으로 이동하던 인천해경 구조대는 저수심으로 현장 접근이 어렵자 속히 동력 및 무동력구조보드를 이용한 인명구조를 결정, 고립자 5명을 모두 구조했다. 이들의 건강상태는 양호했다.
인천해경은 이들이 해루질동호회 회원으로 갯벌활동을 하다 바닷물이 차오르는 시간을 인지하지 못해 고립된 것으로 보고 있다.
인천해경 구조대 나종의 팀장은 “영흥도 진두항에 구조한 5명을 내려드리고 복귀하려 할 때 감사하다는 말을 들었다”며 “무사히 구조할 수 있어 큰 보람을 느꼈다”고 말했다.
