(브레이크뉴스인천 박상도 기자) 인천시가 23일, 최근 인스파이어 아레나(인천 중구 소재) 일대에서 빈발하는 택시 불법행위를 근절하기 위해 지난 6월 21일 중구청, 인천중부경찰서와 함께 심야 합동 지도.단속을 실시했다고 밝혔다.
인천시에 따르면, 이번 단속은 대형 공연이 열린 6월 21일 토요일, 공연장 일대에서 집중적으로 이뤄졌다.
주요 단속 대상은 외국인을 포함한 승객을 상대로 한 부당요금 요구, 호객행위, 미터기 미사용 등으로, 관련 민원과 제보가 지속적으로 증가함에 따라 시는 선제적으로 대응에 나섰다.
단속은 인천시(택시운수과), 중구청, 인천중부경찰서가 협력해 인스파이어 아레나 앞 주요 도로와 택시승강장 주변 등에서 실시됐다.
인천시 관계자는 “대형 공연 전후로 관람객과 외국인 관광객이 집중될 것으로 예상됨에 따라, 택시 관련 불편을 사전에 차단하고 도시 이미지를 보호하기 위해 이번 단속을 시행했다”고 설명했다.
특히, 인스파이어 아레나가 위치한 영종 지역은 인천국제공항 택시 공동사업구역으로 지정되어 있어, 인천은 물론 서울과 경기(고양, 김포, 부천, 광명) 지역의 택시 영업이 가능한 특수성을 지닌다.
이에 인천시는 단속에 앞서 서울시와 경기도 등 해당 자치단체에 협조공문을 사전 발송해 타 지자체 소속 택시의 불법행위 예방을 당부했다.
또한, 인천시는 관내 법인·개인택시 조합에도 불법행위 금지를 안내하는 공문을 발송하고, 현장에서 대기 중인 택시 운수종사자들에게 관련 홍보물을 배포해 경각심을 높였다.
공연장 인근에는 한글과 영어로 된 현수막을 설치해 시민과 관광객이 불법 택시로 인한 피해를 입었을 경우 해당 지자체에 적극 신고할 수 있도록 안내했다.
채경식 시 택시운수과장은 “이번 단속은 일회성에 그치지 않고, 반복되거나 상습적인 위반자에 대해서는 지속적으로 대응해 나갈 계획”이라며 “시민과 관광객이 안심하고 택시를 이용할 수 있도록 서울시와 경기도에도 지속적으로 협조를 요청하겠다”고 밝혔다.
