【브레이크뉴스 경주】박희경 기자=경주시가 10일 외동읍 문산리 외동2산업단지 주차장에서 ‘외동산업단지 복합문화센터’ 착공식을 열고 본격적인 공사에 들어갔다.

이날 행사에는 주낙영 경주시장을 비롯한 시·도의원, 입주기업 관계자, 외동공단연합회, 지역 주민 등 300여 명이 참석해 성공적인 건립을 기원했다.
복합문화센터는 산업통상자원부의 ‘2022년 노후산단 경쟁력 강화 공모사업’에 선정된 사업으로, 총 71억 원(국비 27억, 도비 3.5억, 시비 40.5억)이 투입된다. 지상 2층, 연면적 1,436㎡ 규모로 조성되며, 2025년 3월 준공을 목표로 한다.
센터 1층에는 작업복 공동세탁소, 북카페, 회의실, 헬스장 등 근로자 중심의 복지시설이 들어서며, 2층에는 커뮤니티실과 야외 테라스가 마련돼 여가와 소통 공간의 역할을 할 예정이다. 근로자와 지역 주민이 함께 이용할 수 있는 복합문화 거점으로 조성해 지역 정주 여건 개선에도 기여할 것으로 기대된다.
경주시는 이와 함께 외동산단 내 근무환경 개선을 위한 ‘아름다운 거리 조성사업’도 본격화한다. 해당 사업은 지난해 산업부 공모에 선정돼 총 30억 원(국비 20억, 도비 2.6억, 시비 7.4억)의 예산이 투입되며, 이달 중 착공해 2025년 2월 완공을 목표로 추진된다.
6km 구간에 걸쳐 도로 및 인도 정비, 소공원과 산책로 조성, 스마트 가로등 설치, 야간 경관 조명, 담장 정비 등이 이뤄질 예정으로, 산업단지의 도시미관 개선과 보행자 안전 확보에 기여할 것으로 보인다.
외동산단은 경주시 최초로 1994년 조성된 산업단지로, 인근 산단과 개별공단을 포함해 1,200여 개 제조업체에서 약 1만5,000명의 근로자가 근무하고 있다. 인근에 3,200여 세대가 거주하는 대규모 아파트 단지까지 위치해 있어 두 사업의 파급 효과는 클 것으로 전망된다.
주낙영 경주시장은 “산업단지의 경쟁력이 곧 기업의 경쟁력”이라며 “복합문화센터와 아름다운 거리 조성사업을 통해 근로자, 기업, 지역 주민 모두가 만족할 수 있는 산업단지 환경을 만들어 나가겠다”고 강조했다.

The first floor of the center will house welfare facilities centered on workers, such as a workwear common laundry, a book cafe, a conference room, and a gym, while the second floor will feature a community room and an outdoor terrace to serve as a space for leisure and communication. It is expected to contribute to improving the local living conditions by creating a complex cultural hub that can be used by workers and local residents together.
In addition, Gyeongju City is also launching the ‘Beautiful Street Creation Project’ to improve the working environment in the Oedong Industrial Complex.
