브레이크뉴스 정민우 기자= KT&G는 지난 10일 국내 잎담배 농가와 상생을 위해 복지증진 지원금 4억 원을 전달했다고 11일 밝혔다.
이번 지원금을 통해 잎담배 재배 농업인 총 500명이 건강검진 비용을 지원받고, 잎담배 농가 자녀 120명이 학업 장학금을 지급받는다.
KT&G는 고령화로 어려움을 겪는 잎담배 경작농가의 경제적 부담을 완화하고 상생경영을 실천하기 위해 2013년부터 ‘잎담배 농가 특별지원사업’을 꾸준히 이어오고 있다. 올해로 13년째를 맞은 해당 사업을 통해 수혜를 받은 누적 경작인 수는 1만5800여 명에 달한다.
또한, KT&G는 매년 국산 잎담배 농가와 계약을 통해 잎담배를 전량 구매하고 있으며, 잎담배 이식 및 수확 시기에는 임직원 봉사단을 파견해 일손을 돕는 등 국내 농촌 보호에 앞장서 오고 있다.
정성헌 KT&G 구매운영본부장은 “농민들의 어려움을 해소하고 실질적인 도움을 주기 위해 농가 복지증진 지원 사업을 해오고있다”며 “앞으로도 잎담배 농가에 꾸준한 지원 사업을 추진해 보탬이 될 수 있도록 노력할 것이다”고 말했다.
