중구청(구청장 류규하)은 15일, 구청 1층 로비에 실시간 인구 수를 보여주는 ‘인구 현황판’을 설치하고, 10만 돌파를 앞두고 구민과 함께하는 캠페인을 시작했다고 밝혔다.
중구의 인구는 최근 몇 년간 눈에 띄는 상승세를 보여왔다. 2021년 7만4,791명에서 2022년 8만199명, 2023년 8만9,064명, 그리고 2024년 9만7,711명까지 매년 5천 명 이상씩 증가했다. 특히 최근 3년 연속 전국 228개 기초자치단체 중 ‘인구 순유입률 1위’를 기록하며 주목받고 있다.
7월 15일 기준 중구의 인구는 9만9,917명. 단 83명만 더 늘어나면 대망의 10만 명 고지를 밟게 된다. 중구청은 이 추세라면 수일 내 10만 돌파가 가능할 것으로 보고, 매일 인구를 집계해 현황판에 반영하고 있다.
10만 명 회복을 기념하기 위해 구청 로비에는 포토존도 설치됐다. 중구는 이달 말까지 포토존을 운영하고, 10만 번째 전입자에게는 특별 제작한 전입 명패를 전달하는 기념 행사도 마련할 예정이다.
류규하 중구청장은 “중구의 인구 회복은 행정만으로 이뤄낸 결과가 아니라, 주민과 상권, 공동체가 함께 만들어낸 변화”라며 “앞으로도 누구나 살고 싶고 머물고 싶은 매력적인 도심으로 발전시키기 위해 최선을 다하겠다”고 말했다.
