대통령실이 21일 "김의철 전 KBS 사장 해임 소송에 대한 항소를 취하하는 서류를 법원에 제출했다”고 밝혔다.
강유정 대변인은 이날 오후 용산 대통령실 브리핑에서 "앞서 서울행정법원은 윤석열 전 대통령 해임 처분이 재량권을 일탈·남용한 것으로 무효라 판결한 바 있다”며 “법원 판단을 존중하고 전 정부서 발생한 위법 사항을 바로잡고자 하는 것”이라고 전했다.
그러면서 "이재명 정부는 앞으로 언론 자유를 최대한 보장하고 방송 공공성 회복을 위해 노력하겠다”고 덧붙였다.
또 ”이재명 정부는 광주·전북·전남·경남에 특별재난지역 선포·특별교부세 지급을 신속 검토하는 등 중앙정부 역할·책임을 다하겠다“고 전했다.
앞서 지난 1월 16일 서울행정법원은 윤석열 전 대통령의 김 전 사장 해임 처분이 재량권을 일탈 남용한 처분이라며 무효를 선고했으나 최상목 당시 대통령 권한대행이 1심 판결에 불복해 항소했다.
KBS 이사회는 지난 2023년 9월 12일 무능·방만경영·불공정 편파방송 등을 이유로 김 전 사장 해임안을 제청했고, 윤 전 대통령은 그날 김 전 사장을 해임한 바 있다.
