‘2025 박정희컵 국제오픈태권도대회’는 박정희컵 조직위원회가 주최하고 경북태권도협회와 상주시태권도협회가 공동 주관했으며 한국을 비롯해 미국, 프랑스 등 전 세계 18개국에서 4,200여 명의 선수들이 참가해 지난 18일부터 21일까지 상주 실내체육관에서 열띤 경쟁을 펼쳤다.
경기는 종합경연, 격파, 품새, 발차기, 실전 겨루기 등 다양한 종목으로 구성돼 참가자들의 기량을 입체적으로 평가했다.

4개, 은메달 7개, 동메달 14개를 획득하며 전원이 입상하는 쾌거를 거뒀다.
특히 이번 대회는 대한민국의 문화외교적 위상을 높이는 자리로도 주목받았다. 태권도 종주국인 한국에서 열린 국제대회에서의 활약은 국내외 참가자들에게 강한 인상을 남겼다는 평가다.
금메달을 딴 이준위 선수는 “훈련 시간이 충분하지는 않았지만, 주어진 시간 안에 최대한 집중하려 노력했다”며 “그 노력이 좋은 결과로 이어져 감사하다”고 소감을 전했다.
대표팀 김덕훈 감독은 “국제 규모의 대회인 만큼, 국내외 우수 선수들이 대거 참가해 수준 높은 경합이 벌어졌다”며 “선수들이 흔들림 없이 제 실력을 발휘해준 것이 자랑스럽다. 이번 대회를 바탕으로 내년에는 더 많은 인원과 향상된 기량으로 참가할 수 있도록 훈련 시스템과 전략을 체계적으로 준비하겠다”고 말했다.
신천지 태권도 대표팀은 이번 박정희컵뿐만 아니라, 이달 초 부산에서 열린 ‘2025 김운용컵 국제오픈태권도대회’에서도 참가자 전원이 입상하는 뛰어난 성과를 거둔 바 있다. 당시 12명이 출전해 1위 2명, 2위 4명, 3위 5명 등 전체 인원이 메달권에 오르며 국제대회 연속 수상 기록을 이어가고 있다.
또한, 지난해 열린 ‘2024 문경세계태권도한마당’에서도 18명의 출전 선수 중 5명이 입상하는 등 매년 국내외 대회에서 우수한 성과를 거두고 있으며 실력과 안정된 팀 운영을 동시에 갖춘 대표팀으로 자리매김하고 있다.
