충남 서천군이 자살 예방과 정신건강 지원을 위한 지역사회 기반 안전망을 강화하고 있다. 군 보건소는 지난 21일부터 25일까지 ‘생명존중약국’ 운영 실태를 집중 점검하고, 관련 약국에 홍보 물품을 배포하는 등 사업 내실화에 박차를 가했다.
이번 현장 점검은 생명존중약국이 수행하는 정신건강 서비스 연계 기능을 면밀히 살피고, 약사들이 생명지킴이로서 보다 적극적인 역할을 수행할 수 있도록 실질적인 지원책을 제공하는 데 초점을 맞췄다.
생명존중약국은 지난 2021년부터 운영 중인 정신건강 중재사업의 일환으로, 지정된 약국이 정신질환 고위험군이나 위기 상황에 놓인 내방객을 대상으로 마음건강 상태를 살피고, 필요 시 정신건강복지센터 등 전문기관으로 연계하는 역할을 한다. 특히 정신적 고통을 겪는 주민들이 의료기관이 아닌 일상적 공간에서 도움을 받을 수 있도록 하는 데 그 의의가 크다.

나성구 서천군 보건소장은 “생명존중약국은 자살 위험군을 조기에 발굴하고 정신건강 서비스를 연계하는 데 있어 중요한 거점”이라며 “지속적인 협력과 지원을 통해 지역사회 생명존중 문화를 확산해 나가겠다”고 말했다.
서천군은 향후 생명지킴이 약사 교육을 정례화하고, 정신건강 인식개선 캠페인도 지속 전개함으로써 주민의 마음건강 회복과 생명존중 가치 확산에 더욱 힘쓸 계획이다.
