충남 서천군이 국산밀의 자급률 향상과 지역 내 소비 활성화를 위한 본격적인 지원에 나선다고 28일 밝혔다.
군은 ‘2025년 우리밀 소비확대 지원사업’을 통해 관내 생산된 우리밀의 판로를 안정적으로 확보하고, 수입산 밀과의 가격 차이를 보전해 지역 외식업체와 제조업소의 우리밀 활용을 유도한다.
현재 서천군에는 황금알과 새금강 품종을 중심으로 한 국산밀 재배 단지 3곳이 조성돼 있으며, 24개 농가가 총 87.2㏊ 규모에서 연간 약 305톤을 생산하고 있다. 이처럼 꾸준히 확대되고 있는 재배 기반에도 불구하고, 고가의 원료비로 인해 지역 내 소비는 아직까지 미미한 수준이다.
이에 따라 군은 총 1,500만 원의 예산을 편성해 우리밀 사용 업소에 1㎏당 1,000원의 차액을 지원한다는 방침이다. 지원 대상은 서천군 관내에서 우리밀을 사용하는 음식점, 외식업체, 제과·제빵 및 식품 제조업소 등이며, 오는 8월부터 12월까지 사업 신청을 받는다.
지원 신청을 원하는 업소는 사업 신청서와 함께 실제 구매 내역을 입증할 수 있는 거래 증빙자료를 군에 제출해야 하며, 접수된 자료는 검토 절차를 거쳐 차액 지원이 이뤄진다.
이원병 서천군 농업정책과장은 “우리밀은 식량 자급률 향상과 더불어 안전한 먹거리를 제공하는 중요한 작물”이라며 “이번 지원사업을 통해 서천산 우리밀이 실질적인 소비로 연결될 수 있도록 적극적으로 지원하겠다”고 말했다.
서천군은 이번 사업을 계기로 우리밀 유통 구조 개선과 소비자 인식 제고에도 박차를 가할 계획이다. 특히 지역 농산물의 선순환 구조를 구축함으로써 농가 소득 증대와 지역경제 활력 제고라는 두 마리 토끼를 잡겠다는 구상이다.
