【브레이크뉴스 포항】박영재 기자=해병대는 28일부터 다음달 1일까지 4박 5일간 경북 포항 훈련장 일대에서 전국 중·고교생과 대학생, 일반인, 재외동포 청소년 등 300여 명을 대상으로 ’2025년 여름 해병대 캠프‘를 실시 중이라고 30일 밝혔다.

매년 실시하는 해병대 캠프는 해병대를 향한 높은 관심과 애정을 바탕으로 새로운 도전을 희망하는 지원자들이 몰려 높은 경쟁률을 보였으며,올해도 조기에 참가 신청이 마감됐다.
해병대는 올해는 예년과 달리최초로 재외동포 희망자에 대한 참가 신청을 받은결과 미국, 독일, 말레이시아, 캐나다 등 6개국 재외동포 청소년 10명이 캠프에 참가해 조국에 대한 이해와 자긍심을 높이는 시간을 보내고 있다고 전했다.

참가자들의 도전정신과 자신감 배양을 목표로 한 이번 해병대 캠프는 일자별로 ‘시작’, ‘충성’, ‘명예’, ‘도전’, ‘탄생’이라는 주제를 설정하고 이에 맞는 다양한 훈련 프로그램으로 구성됐다.
1일 차에는 입소식을 시작으로 해병대 역사소개, 제식ㆍ군가교육을 통해 해병대 고유의 정신력과 자신감을 배양했다. 2일 차에는 공수ㆍ유격기초훈련을, 3일 차에는 KAAV(상륙돌격장갑차) 탑승, IBS(소형고무보트) 체험을 통해 극기심과 도전정신을 함양했다.

4일 차에는 참가자들이 해병대의 일원이라면 모두가 거쳐야 하는 천자봉 행군, 전투수영, 이함훈련 등을 통해 해병대의 고유임무인 상륙작전에 대한 이해도를 높이고, 대한민국 국민으로서의 자긍심을 고취시키는 시간을 갖게 된다. 캠프 마지막 날인 5일 차에는 자신의 한계를 극복하며 힘든 훈련을마친 수료자들에게 도전과 극기의 상징인 해병대 빨간 명찰이 수여된다.
또 해병대는 최초로 참가한 재외동포 청소년들을 위해 캠프 수료식 후 8월 2일, APEC이 열리는 경주와포항 일대에서의 모국 문화체험 프로그램을 마련했다. 이들은 첨성대, 대릉원, 호미곶 등 역사 문화 유적지를 방문하고 한국의 전통과 가치를 느끼며 조국에 대한 이해와 자긍심을 함양하는 뜻깊은 시간을 갖게 될 예정이다.
해병대는 캠프 전 과정에 교육생들의 체력수준과 나이대를 고려한 소대 편성과 훈련 강도를 적용했으며, 혹서기 환경에 따라 훈련장 내 캐노피, 쿨링패치, 쿨링버스 등을 비치해 온열 질환을 예방에 최선을 다하고 있다.
미국에서 온 재외동포 앤드류 재성 김(Andrew Jeesung Kim)은 “한국을더 깊이 이해하고, 해병대 훈련을 직접 체험하고 싶어 캠프에 지원했다“며, ”어떤 상황도 해결할 수 있다는 자신감을 기르고, 강인한 해병대 정신을배우는 좋은 기회였다“고 소감을 밝혔다.
해병대캠프 교육대장 송재욱 소령은 “이번 캠프는 단순한 체험을 넘어 자신의 한계를 넘고, 서로 협동하며 도전정신과 강인한 해병대 정신력을 기를 수 있도록 구성됐다.”라며 “특히 재외동포 청소년들이 함께 참여해 해병대 정신을 바탕으로 조국에 대한 이해와 자긍심을 키우는 뜻깊은 시간이 되기를 기대한다”고 말했다.
한편, 해병대 캠프는 ’97년부터 매년 해병대 1사단에서 여름과 겨울방학 기간에 운영되고 있으며, 지금까지 3만 6천여 명이 참가했습니다. 앞으로도 해병대는 참가자들의 눈높이에 맞는 프로그램의 개발과 해병대만의 교육훈련 체험을 통해 참가자들이 안전한 가운데 도전정신을 함양할 수 있는 기회를 제공해 나갈 예정이다.
