【브레이크뉴스 대구】진예솔 기자=대봉초등학교 5·6학년 학생 25명이 미군부대에서 펼쳐진 특별한 영어캠프를 통해 글로벌 역량을 키웠다.
대구 남구청이 주최한 '글로벌 앞산 영어캠프'에 참여해 영어와 미국 문화를 직접 체험한 것이다.
캠프는 지난 9일부터 30일까지 4주간 캠프 워커와 캠프 헨리에서 진행됐다. 학생들은 미군과 카투사 병사들과 영어로 직접 소통하며 볼링, 군견 시범, 군 시설 견학 등 다채로운 활동을 경험했다.
특히 마지막 주에는 수료식과 함께 스포츠 활동을 펼쳐 영어 자신감과 협동심을 동시에 기르는 시간을 가졌다.
참가한 학생들은 호평을 이어갔다. 5학년 최윤준 학생은 “부대 안에서 볼링도 치고, 군견 시범이 정말 멋있었다”고 소감을 전했다.
6학년 박시율 학생은 “카투사에 대해 알게 되었고, 나중에 꼭 지원하고 싶다”고 말했다.
우경돈 교장은 "학생들이 실제 외국 문화 속에서 영어로 소통하며 자신감을 얻는 좋은 기회였다"며 "이런 체험이 글로벌 인재로 성장하는 밑거름이 될 것"이라고 말했다.

Twenty-five fifth and sixth grade students from Daebong Elementary School developed their global competencies through a special English camp held at a US military base.
They participated in the "Global Apsan English Camp," hosted by the Nam-gu District Office in Daegu, and experienced English and American culture firsthand.
The four-week camp took place from the 9th to the 30th at Camp Walker and Camp Henry. Students interacted directly with US soldiers and KATUSA soldiers in English and participated in a variety of activities, including bowling, military dog demonstrations, and tours of military facilities.
The final week, in particular, included a graduation ceremony and sports activities, fostering both English confidence and teamwork.
Participants received rave reviews. Choi Yoon-jun, a fifth grader, said, "I enjoyed bowling on the base, and the military dog demonstration was truly impressive."
Park Si-yul, a sixth grader, said, "I learned about KATUSA and would definitely like to apply someday."
Principal Woo Kyung-don said, "This was a great opportunity for students to gain confidence by communicating in English in an actual foreign culture," and added, "This experience will serve as a foundation for them to grow into global talents."
