서산시가 시민 안전을 위해 예천사거리부터 역말 교차로 구간에 LED 가로등 32주를 설치하고 있다고 7일 밝혔다.
이번 사업은 차량 통행량이 많고 주거지 및 상가가 밀집해 있지만, 그동안 가로등이 없어 교통사고 위험이 높았던 해당 구간의 야간 시인성을 개선하고 보행자의 안전을 확보하기 위해 추진되었다.
시에 따르면, 총 2억 원의 사업비가 투입되었으며, 오는 8월 중 공사가 완료될 예정이다. 서산시는 이번 가로등 설치를 통해 운전자의 야간 시야 확보는 물론, 야간 보행자의 안전성 또한 크게 강화될 것으로 기대하고 있다.
한편, 서산시는 지난 6월, 관내 노후 가로등 480개소를 고효율 LED 조명으로 교체하는 작업을 완료했다. 이를 통해 연간 약 9만 6천여 kWh의 전력과 1천여만 원의 전기 요금을 절감할 수 있을 것으로 전망된다.
조진희 서산시 민원봉사과장은 "이번 가로등 설치를 통해 시민의 체감 안전도를 높이고 쾌적한 도로 환경 조성에 이바지하겠다"고 전했다.
