【브레이크뉴스 경주】박희경 기자=경주시가 지난 7일 교육부로부터 ‘교육발전특구 시범지역’으로 최종 지정되며 미래형 교육혁신 도시로의 도약을 본격화하고 있다.

이번 지정은 경주시가 지난해 교육발전특구 2차 공모에서 예비 지역으로 선정된 뒤, 올해 교육부 재평가를 통과해 시범지역으로 승격된 성과다. 시범운영 기간은 2024년부터 2026년까지 3년이며, 연차평가를 거쳐 2026년 정식 특구 지정 여부가 결정된다.
교육발전특구 사업은 지자체, 교육청, 대학, 지역 기업, 공공기관 등이 협력해 지역 특성에 맞는 교육혁신 모델을 구축하고, 산업 연계형 인재 양성과 정주 여건 개선 등을 종합적으로 추진하는 교육부 주관 공모 사업이다.
경주시는 역사·문화·관광산업과 미래차, 혁신원자력 등 지역 대표 산업을 융합한 ‘정주형 미래인재 양성 모델’을 제안해 높은 평가를 받았으며, 이번 재평가를 통해 ‘선도지역’으로 지정됐다.
시는 이번 특구 지정을 계기로 ▲경주형 돌봄체계 시스템 구축 ▲유보·유초 연계 프로그램 도입 등 전 생애 돌봄 기반 강화 ▲MICE 산업 연계 특성화고 및 경북형 마이스터고 지정 협약 추진 ▲지자체·대학·기업 협업을 통한 전문 인재 양성 및 혁신기술 개발 ▲청년 정주 지원과 인재 관리 체계를 갖춘 ‘경주시 인재뱅크지원센터’ 설립 등을 본격 추진할 계획이다.
주낙영 경주시장은 “이번 지정은 경주가 지역산업과 연계한 실질적인 인재 양성에 나설 수 있는 제도적 기반을 마련한 것”이라며 “지역사회, 대학, 기업이 힘을 모아 교육 혁신을 완성하고 인구소멸 위기를 극복하는 지속가능한 성장 모델을 구축하겠다”고 말했다.

Mayor Joo Nak-young of Gyeongju stated, "This designation establishes the institutional foundation for Gyeongju to engage in practical talent development linked to local industries. We will work together with the local community, universities, and businesses to complete educational innovation and build a sustainable growth model that overcomes the population decline crisis."
