충청남도교육청(교육감 김지철)은 8일, 광복 80주년을 맞아 나라꽃 무궁화의 의미를 되새기고 민족 정체성과 애국심을 함양하기 위한 ‘나라꽃 사랑의 날 기념행사’를 본청 안뜨락에서 개최했다.
이날 행사는 교육청 전 직원이 참여한 가운데 진행됐으며, 무궁화를 다양한 방식으로 체험할 수 있는 프로그램이 마련돼 참여자들의 큰 호응을 얻었다. 구체적으로는 '무궁화에 대한 정보를 알기 쉽게 전달하는 안내판 전시', '무궁화를 배경으로 한 사진 촬영 공간 운영', '3행시 짓기', '무궁화 관련 홍보 영상 상영' 등이 진행됐다.
충남교육청은 이번 행사를 통해 순국선열의 희생과 광복의 의미를 되새기고, 일상 속에서 무궁화를 통한 나라사랑 실천의 계기를 마련하고자 했다고 설명했다.
김지철 교육감은 “광복 80주년이라는 뜻깊은 해에, 우리 민족의 혼이 깃든 무궁화의 가치를 다시 생각해보는 자리를 가질 수 있어 매우 의미 있다”며 “앞으로도 학생들이 일상 속에서 무궁화를 접하고, 조국에 대한 자긍심을 키워갈 수 있도록 교육적 노력을 이어가겠다”고 강조했다.
충남교육청은 지난 2017년부터 ‘무궁무진 나라꽃 피는 학교 만들기’ 사업을 통해 도내 교육기관에 무궁화 묘목을 보급하고, 무궁화 관리 전문인력인 지도사를 양성해왔다. 또한 무궁화 도감과 교육용 교재를 제작·보급하는 등 무궁화 선양을 위한 다양한 활동을 꾸준히 추진해 왔다.
이러한 노력은 중앙정부 차원에서도 인정받아 2019년에는 행정안전부 주관 ‘국가상징 선양’ 분야에서 대통령 표창을 수상했고, 2020년에는 충남교육청 정원이 ‘무궁화 명소’로 선정되는 성과를 거둔 바 있다.
충남교육청은 앞으로도 무궁화를 활용한 교육 프로그램과 홍보 활동을 강화해 학생들의 나라사랑 의식을 심화시키고, 민족정신 계승에 지속적으로 힘쓸 방침이다.
