이재명 대통령이 오는 24일부터 26일까지 미국 워싱턴을 실무 방문한다고 대통령실이 12일 전했다.
강유정 대통령실 대변인은 이날 용산 대통령실 브리핑에서 "이재명 대통령은 트럼프 대통령 초청으로 8월 25일 한·미 정상회담 개최를 위해 8월 24일부터 26일까지 미국을 방문 계획”이라고 밝혔다. 이번 방미엔 부인 김혜경 여사도 동행한다.
그러면서 "이번 회담은 한·미 정상 간 첫 대면 회담으로 변화하는 국제 안보·경제 환경에 대응해 한·미동맹을 미래형 포괄적 전략동맹으로 발전시켜 나가기 위한 방안으로 논의될 예정”이라고 전했다.
이어 "굳건한 한·미 연합 방위 태세를 더욱 강화해 나가는 가운데 한반도 평화 구축·비핵화를 위한 공조 방안도 논의될 것”이라며 “두 정상은 이번에 타결된 관세 협상을 바탕으로 반도체·배터리·조선업 등 제조업 분야 포함 경제 협력·첨단 기술·경제 안보 파트너십을 더욱 강화하기 위한 방안도 협의할 것으로 기대한다”고 전했다.
또 "협의에 초점 둔 방문으로 공식 방문과 달리 공식 환영식이 생략된다”며 "공식 환영식과 달리 업무 오찬이 예정돼 있다'고 전했다.
더불어 향후 방일 일정 관련해선 "일본 관련 일정은 아직 정해지지 않았다”며 "셔틀 외교 등 여러 가능성을 검토 중이나 구체적으로 결정된 사항은 없으며 경제사절단 동행 여부도 가능하나 결정된 바 없다"고 덧붙였다.
