미국 백악관이 오는 15일(현지시간) 미 알래스카주에서 열리는 미·러 정상회담이 도널드 트럼프 미국 대통령·블라디미르 푸틴 러시아 대통령 간 양자 회담으로 진행될 것이라고 12일(현지시간) 전했다.
영국 '로이터 통신' 등에 따르면 캐롤라인 레빗 백악관 대변인은 이날 워싱톤 DC 백악관 언론 브리핑에서 "미·러 정상회담이 알래스카주 최대 도시 앵커리지에서 개최된다"며 이같이 밝혔다. 볼로디미르 젤렌스키 우크라이나 대통령은 이번에 초청되지 않을 것임을 재확인한 것이다.
그러면서 '젤렌스키 대통령을 왜 초청 않느냐'란 취재진 질의에 "이번 회담은 러시아 대통령이 스티브 위트코프 중동특사를 통해 미 대통령에게 만나자고 해 이뤄졌다"며 "회담 목표는 전쟁을 어떻게 끝낼 수 있을지에 대해 더 잘 이해하는 것"이라고 답했다.
