경기도의회 성기황 의원(더불어민주당·군포2)이 좌장을 맡아 지난 8월 21일 경기도의회 대회의실에서 ‘경기도형 지속가능발전교육의 학교 현장 정착을 위한 정책토론회’를 진행했다.
이번 토론회는 경기도교육청과 경기도의회가 공동 주최한 ‘경기교육정책토론회’의 일환으로, 지난 6월 공포된 ‘경기도교육청 지속가능발전교육 활성화 조례’와 연계해 추진 방향과 실행 방안을 논의하기 위해 마련됐다.
유영수 경기도교육청 융합교육과 장학관은 ‘지속가능발전교육 정책 발전방안 모색’을 주제로, 도내 학교들의 환경·지속가능발전교육 운영 현황과 향후 확대 계획을 발표했다.

이어진 토론에서는 현장의 교사와 시민사회 관계자들이 다양한 의견을 제시했다.
이혜란 보평중 교사, 이미애 모현중 교사, 박은영 부곡고 교사는 “체계적인 교육 자료 개발, 유관기관 협업 체계 구축, 교사·학부모 대상 연수 확대”를 지속가능발전교육 정착의 핵심 과제로 꼽았다.
방극안 안양지속가능발전협의회 상임회장은 시민사회를 대표해 “지역사회 협력과 함께 학교장의 의지가 무엇보다 중요하다”고 강조했다.
성기황 의원은 “경기도의 지속가능발전교육은 전국 최초로 시행되는 제도인 만큼 학교 현장에 안정적으로 뿌리내리는 것이 중요하다”며, “토론회에서 제시된 의견을 바탕으로 구체적인 정책 수립과 예산 반영까지 이어질 수 있도록 최선을 다하겠다”고 밝혔다.

Exploring Implementation Plans with Teachers, Parents, and Civil Society
On August 21st, a policy discussion forum for the establishment of Gyeonggi-style sustainable development education in schools was held, moderated by Gyeonggi Provincial Council Member Seong Ki-hwang (Democratic Party of Korea, Gunpo 2).
This discussion, part of the "Gyeonggi Education Policy Discussion," co-hosted by the Gyeonggi Provincial Office of Education and the Gyeonggi Provincial Council, was organized to discuss the direction and implementation of the "Gyeonggi Provincial Office of Education Sustainable Development Education Promotion Ordinance," promulgated in June.
Yoo Young-soo, Director of the Convergence Education Division at the Gyeonggi Provincial Office of Education, presented the current status of environmental and sustainable development education implementation in schools across the province and future expansion plans under the theme of "Exploring Sustainable Development Education Policy Development Plans."
The following discussion featured diverse perspectives from teachers and civil society representatives. Teachers Lee Hye-ran of Bopyeong Middle School, Lee Mi-ae of Mohyeon Middle School, and Park Eun-young of Bugok High School identified "systematic development of educational materials, establishment of a collaborative system with relevant organizations, and expanded training for teachers and parents" as key tasks for establishing sustainable development education.
Furthermore, Director of the Osan-Bucheon Sustainable Development Council and Bang Geuk-an, Standing Chairman of the Anyang Sustainable Development Council, representing civil society, emphasized, "Community cooperation and the commitment of school principals are paramount."
Councilmember Seong Gi-hwang stated, "Gyeonggi Province's sustainable development education is the first of its kind in the nation, so it is crucial for it to take root in schools." He added, "I will do my best to ensure that the ideas presented at the forum lead to concrete policy development and budgetary reflection."
