【브레이크뉴스 경주】박희경 기자=동국대학교 WISE캠퍼스 유아교육과 재학생과 교수진으로 구성된 봉사단이 지난 7월 27일부터 8월 1일까지 5박 6일간 필리핀 라구나주 산페드로시에서 해외 교육봉사를 실시했다.

봉사단은 굿월드자선은행(대표 덕문 스님)이 설립한 굿월드 문덕 데이케어센터(Good World Munduck Child Development Center)를 찾아, 현지 아동들과 놀이활동·위생교육·급식 지원 등 다양한 프로그램을 진행하며 ‘자비 나눔’의 가치를 실천했다. 이번 봉사에는 김은경 학과장을 비롯한 교수진과 유아교육과 재학생 16명이 참여했다.
활동은 놀이 중심 교육에 초점을 맞췄다. 풍선놀이, 컵 쌓기, 색칠하기 등을 통해 아이들이 스스로 감정을 표현하고 관계를 형성할 수 있는 시간을 마련했다. 또한 위생교육, 급식 지원, 센터 외벽 페인트칠 등 봉사활동을 병행했으며, 지역 주민들에게 치킨 수프를 대접하며 교류의 시간을 가졌다.
김은경 학과장은 “아이들과의 만남은 단순한 봉사가 아니라, 예비교사로서 교육의 본질을 다시 묻는 성찰의 시간이 되었을 것”이라며 “아이 한 명, 한 명을 진심으로 바라본 경험이 교사로 살아가는 마음을 더욱 깊게 했기를 바란다”고 전했다.
안현정(능견 스님) 교수 역시 “작은 손길이 아이들의 미소로 되돌아올 때마다 자비의 실천이 멀리 있는 것이 아니라 바로 지금 이 자리에서 시작됨을 느꼈다”며 “현지 아이들과 마을 사람들과의 만남 그 자체가 귀한 배움이었다”고 강조했다.
해외 교육봉사팀장을 맡은 김소윤 학생은 “다양한 문화 속에서 차이가 아니라 공통점을 발견하게 됐다”며 “아이들의 웃음 속에서 큰 보람을 느끼고 감사한 경험을 했다”고 소감을 밝혔다.
참가 학생들은 한목소리로 “6일간의 활동은 단순한 봉사가 아니라 교사됨의 의미를 되새긴 소중한 시간이었다”고 평가했다.
한편, 동국대 WISE캠퍼스 유아교육과는 불교정신에 기반한 유아교육 실천과 현장 중심 교육을 통해 전문성과 인성을 갖춘 교육자 양성에 지속적으로 힘쓸 계획이다.

Meanwhile, the Department of Early Childhood Education at Dongguk University's WISE Campus plans to continue its efforts to cultivate educators with expertise and character through early childhood education practices grounded in Buddhist principles and field-oriented training.
