이들 업체는 이와 같은 해역에 약 1,800위를 해양장례 하고 유족들로부터 해양장례비용, 승선료 등의 명목으로 11억여원을 받은 것으로 밝혀졌다.
'장사 등에 관한 법률'상 육지의 해안선으로부터 5km이내 해역에서 장례행위를 할 경우 1년 이하의 징역 또는 1천만 원 이하의 벌금에 처해질 수 있다.
